The Los Angeles Clippers have bought out Rasual Butler, and he plans to sign with the Chicago Bulls, a league source told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

Butler must clear waivers before he can sign with the Bulls.

Butler had the best scoring season of his career in 2009-10, averaging 11.9 points and 2.9 rebounds. This season he's averaged 5.0 points and 1.9 rebounds.

3 pt shooting? Tall? Defender? Tough? What's he got that Brewer, Korver and Bogans don't?

He is shooting 32% this year.

I hope we give it the full 7 days before we decide. Let's see if anyone else gets bought out.

IMO he is not any better than Bogans. All it does is add depth to the SG position. Doesn't really make us any better.

he Clippers on Sunday bought out veteran swingman Rasual Butler, who averaged 5 points in 18 minutes and was in the last year of a contract paying him $2.4 million.

The Bulls, who possess roughly $2.9 million of salary cap room, are confident they can sign him once he clears waivers. However, a source said Butler also is drawing interest from the Celtics, Hawks and Thunder.

ESPN.com's Ric Bucher first reported the move and said Butler plans to sign with the Bulls. The Clippers and Bulls engaged in exploratory trade talks regarding Butler before last Thursday's trade deadline, a source said. They never advanced far as the Bulls targeted other shooters more aggressively.

Butler has averaged 8.6 points in 598 career games with three teams. He averaged a career-high 11.9 points last season with the Clippers and is a career 36.1 percent 3-pointer shooter.

Nothing NOTHING screams championship like Rasual Butler. I think the Bulls should hold off though on the off chance Lebron James gets bought out. I hear rumors that the Heat are considering it.

Meh. A meh sandwich with a side of meh. I know Vinnie has no idea how to run an offense, but did he make Butler suck at shooting free throws this year too?

    This.

When a player, particularly a wing, has his productivity precipitously drop after turning 30, it sends up a red flag. If he signs with the Bulls, I think he'll be depth behind Brewer, Korver and Bogans. Hard to get excited about it though.

He's not a guy who is a key player but I'm willing to let him show what he's got. He's a useful 2/3 swing guy who plays hard. Last year he was scoring just under 12 ppg and this year its a huge drop off to 5 ppg. Of course, his minutes also dropped from 33 to 18 as he's been sort of squeezed out. Not being able to get minutes on the Clippers is a comment that almost invites a cynical punchline but while never following him closely, from what I've seen and remember he's a pretty solid overall player. And I still think PER is the "voodoo economics" of the NBA. Pretty good at predicting the Tops of the Class -- which pretty much anyone can predict in a pretty close list by watching the game, no multiplication, divisions, fractions or quantum mechanics required. In other words, his PER numbers mean nothing to me. Omer Asik never had a PER and we got him and he's turned out to be pretty okey dokey. Until he got on the Bulls roster, there were extra servings of Meh applied to him all across the Bulls boards I know. I'll hold off on the Butler Meh for now.

I will hold off too TB#1. On paper he looks no better than Bogans, but we shall see.

ya, being fine is being fine. That was before we had our team completed. He adds depth to the playoff team. Probably wont get much time. A little insurance so to speak.

Again, not earth shattering, but 'fine'
