STEIN_LINE_HQ Marc Stein I'm told Murphy is down to two teams: Boston and Miami. Portland expressed interest, too, but also told it's near lock Murphy is going East STEIN_LINE_HQ Marc Stein RT @timkawakami: NBA source: Warriors and Troy Murphy have reached agreement on a buy-out. Still confirming the details. Finalized tomorrow This could be a problem for us. Signing with Boston takes some of the sting out of losing perkins, at least from the offensive side of things. Signing with the Heat, will hurt us. Gives them another gunner.
Word is Lakes have NOT called for Murphy. I'm told Knicks NOT in hunt, either. I'd give Boston an edge ... except Heat making hard push now http://twitter.com/#!/STEIN_LINE_HQ/status/42084388384677888 No, Troy Murphy will not be an answer for this woefully out-of-sorts Heat offense, but a kick-out option wouldn't hurt. http://twitter.com/#!/IraHeatBeat/status/42086861266616320
Troy Murphy and Kendrick Perkins are such polar opposites that that you can't really view one as a replacement for the other. Besides being tall, is there one thing those guys simultaneously provide? That said, I don't really care where he goes. I haven't looked at his stats lately, but I'd guess this amounts to a team picking up an in his prime Darius Songaila to play for them. Nothing to lose sleep over.
Troy, last season was 14/10. Can hit the 3. Ya, as far as size and defense goes, they are opposites. I was referring to rebounding and scoring.
He's a very good rebounder. He's a not good defensively aside from the fact he's a rebounding natural. Kind of like a tall, shooting only version of Boozer. Because he's tall enough and built enough to at least put a body on my centers, I think he's maybe a shade more useful than Boozer defensively. The big question to me is whether he's healthy or not. Far as I know, he's had injury problems all year, and looked dramatically worse than he has in the past. Or it could be that Avery Johnson didn't like him, used him poorly, and he was only mildly injured. I lean toward him being hurt, but if he's not hurt and signs with the Heat, then I think he's a very useful addition for them. Don't much see how he helps the Celtics
Unless hes miraculously improved his defense since leaving GS, I'd easily peg him as a worse defender than Boozer. That said, any team can use more 3 pt shooting and rebounding. If hes coming off the bench then its not that big of a deal. Seems like people think hes going to the Heat. I also don't see how he would help the Celtics all that much since KG and Glen Davis are both offensive oriented and can shoot pretty well. Krstic too and once Shaq comes back where does Murphy fit in? Why would you ever play him over KG, Davis, or Shaq?
