Just filed to ESPN.com: Sources say we're about to have a surprising late addition to the buyout market: New York is buying out Corey Brewer

    Sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
Stunned by this. He could help Bos, Mia, OKC or Chi.

Also read where NY tried to deal him to us during the deadline. We were not interested

Nothing like 2 brewers to supply the boozer.

I'm with Simmons. I thought Knicks were getting him to play him.

Even if we weren't interested in trading for him, I guess we might be interested at the min salary.

I suppose Brewer may need to take the minimum salary for the remainder of this season, but I doubt he's a min player after that. The trouble with this for the Bulls is that you'd be renting rather than buying. The lure of Brewer is his potential...what he could be rather than what he is. He's a bad rental.

What is wrong with a rental if it helps the team?

If the Bulls cared a wit about potential they wouldn't have dumped JJ in the first place.

I've always found the notion that good teams should stop caring about developing their end of the bench players a little bit odd, by the way. As a fan, I want a guy who might at least do something if given the chance. If Deng went down for a long period, my expectation of say, James Johnson or Corey Brewer coming in is that they have a rough few games and then get their legs under them and play pretty well. My expectation of Rasul Butler is that he has maybe one or two ok games and then he falls apart like the car at the end of the Blues Brothers. Under the best case scenario. Under the likely scenario he's just bad to start and gets even worse.

Moreover, good teams have low draft position and high salaries, so it's hard to add talent in the first place. That makes it even more important to find actual prospects and develop them, not less.

Deal for Brewer will start in $2 million range. Mavs capitalize on fact they could outspend Spurs and Celts, who made strong impressions on Brewer
