Elite little people athletes for soccer. Maradona was 5'5" and had a burst. Big deal.

Pitchers and DH's are fat in baseball. I'll take the overall athleticism of Josh Hamilton over a soccer player any day of the week.

Maybe it's just where I live. None of the dads I know who have younger boys hope their sons are soccer all-stars. Most that have sons that dominate at soccer (including my next door neighbor's kid) are signing him up for 3rd grade football next year, and he'll only be in 2nd grade. This kid does dominate, too. My daughters are best friends with their boys and we go to some of their games, and he had to be pulled off of the field at times because he was so much better than the other kids and the other parents would complain (mainly moms).

In Brazil, his dad would be going nuts thinking he had the next Pele. In Tualatin, his dad can't wait to get him to play football and away from soccer. :)

Didn't we move from the BBF to get faster load-times and less annoying mods? What's happening Denny?

Yes, but soccer moms don't rail into their kids when they lose and demand that they be traded to another family.

I hate it when being called a woman is considered an insult. Ridiculous.

Only people with kids can appreciate the "soccer mom" joke. It's completely accurate, at least in SW Portland-metro. Dads like me keep our mouths shut or stand behind our screaming wives (literally) in a group laughing more about the moms' reactions than the play of our daughters.

My girls are effective goal scorers, one is the best on her team (kinder), the other is the fastest (2nd grade), and even I don't get that into it. I just want to see smiles on their faces, while our wives are all convinced their offspring is the next Mia Hamm.

People in this country are too damn sensitive these days anyway. Seriously, it was a joke by Simmons, get over it. Nobody can say anything anymore without worrying about offending someone.

It could be a great Special Olympics sport, for the handless and those with autism.

Unlike real team sports, it requires no skill to play.

crandc has always been perpetually aggrieved. I've "known" her for 10 years at least now, and she gets more unbearable in her politically-centric life in each passing year. I do wish her nothing but happiness, because based on her always serious posts, she could use a few laughs. :)

    Over-reacting a bit?

Really, how often are you called a woman?

Oh, and Soccer Grandmas are way worse than Soccer Moms in terms of yelling during games.

Baseball is NOT a sport at all. Get that through your ancient head. In what other sports can you sit around and do nothing at all. Seriously, it takes no athleticism or cardio at all to sit out in the field all day and chew tobacco. I have all the athleticism and cardio to be a professional baseball player right now. I have no doubt in my mind. The average soccer player runs 6 miles alone in a game. Seriously, even your managers are pathetic. They have to wear the uniform that they used to wear in the 1700's because they can't let go of the fact they can't play anymore. Why can't they play anymore? I really have no idea, because even their old frailly body could handle the rigorous game of baseball.
162 games in a season? If your body can handle 162 games in a season then you are not in a sport.

If your body can't handle 162 games in a season, you're certainly no athlete.

    You're probably a soccer player.

What's holding you back? Fear of success?

The average HS girl's (for crandc) track team runs at least 6 miles a day.

My Jack Russell runs far more than 6 miles a day, and is much more agile than any soccer player.

I don't know many people who can't run 6 miles. It requires little to no athleticism at all. Only a soccer fan would think it was something out of the ordinary.
