He's doing the little things that matters. He had a good first year, had a bad year and wanted to be traded. Nate gave him more minutes this season. Rudy is doing the little things and i appreciate what he has done. He seems to be happy with Mills and I hope he gets resigned.
I admit we try to focus on his 3point ability in the draft, etc but he has a new role now and is actually a point guard at times.
Rudy is an exceptional player in my eyes. He has his liabilities like taking the ball to the basket but I agree that he does so many other things that make him at least one of my favorite Blazer players if not THE MOST favorite.
Overall he has been better this year. Between he and Roy I feel good about our back up SG position. He is why I have no issues with Roy not playing in back to backs. Rudy is not a PG (Nor is Roy) and they both need minutes. He will get his minutes on the road trip.
To my eyes they've missed his perimeter threat the last couple of games as teams have seemed to pack the paint more then usual. His shooting and passing make the Blazers attack more diverse/effective and dude creates some TOs on D with his hustle just a thought... of course Rudy has had the flu so bad he's been out, but how likely is it that he's the only Blazer with it? Probably several of the guys have lessor cases which may be why they've looked so blasé lately energy wise STOMP
I don't appreciate Rudy because I don't think he's a pro. First it was threatening to hold out during training camp unless they released him or traded him, and then during this trade deadline he threatens to return to Spain if he's traded effectively killing his trade value. Fuck him.
Rudy did neither of those things. You're thinking of his agent. Rudy is the most talented and by far most complete guard we have, and when we finally quit trying to make Roy somehow fit this team we'll start winning again. Cho's secret plot to bring back Sergio next year is going to propel us to the top.
didn't both Roy and Aldridge hint/threaten that they might leave when their contracts were up and not getting done instantly? Hell, how many times has Roy publicly thrown Andre Miller under the bus? Didn't Camby threaten to retire if he was traded effectively killing his trade value? Joel did the same thing trying to stave off a trade. This sort of posturing where the player tries to benefit their personal situation goes on during the offseason and every trade deadline throughout the league. Seems to me that Rudy's offseason actions weren't all that different then many Pros... in a league full of selfish prima-donnas, why single him out? STOMP
I don't recall Brandon and LMA threatening to leave, but they did say publicly that they wanted to get their deals done ASAP. As for Roy throwing Andre under the bus, fuck him too; I don't think he's been a great pro either. The bottom line with Rudy is that he's done this crap twice in less than six months. Fuck him.
Nope. Rudy Brings Value to this Organization that cannot be captured by stats. Basketball is a business, and Rudy definitely adds a net positive to the Blazers Franchise.
I am going to guess thousands of 20-50 years old ladies with fantasies of his dreamy smile. And Maris.
Rudy's value is dependent on 2 things. Playing time obviously, and the total absence of Roy. While Roy was out, Rudy was continually in the 7th-50th spots in the Yahoo fantasy league due to his excellence in nearly every category available. Roy performed no better when he was healthy earlier in the year. The team is 21-10 with Rudy rather than Roy.
OK. Rudy's shooting is streaky and he's had some rough stretches shooting the ball that have hurt his average. His shooting percentage isn't as good as most of us think it should be. But in watching Rudy and the team when he's on the court, I think he provides a lot of spark, hustle, player movement and ball movement that seems at least to my non-statistically dependent eye to make the team and his teammates better. I think he makes his teammates better, and he makes big plays. At the very least, the game is more fun for me to watch when he's flying all over the place disrupting the other team's offense. You have to get up pretty early in the morning to beat Rudy to a loose ball. He disrupts a lot of plays and does other things that don't show up in individual stats. His constant movement on offense and his ability to make a quick three forces the other team to pay attention to him and distracts them from our other players. He's as happy getting an assist as making a basket. I wouldn't start him, but I like what he brings off the bench.
Here's a great place to start: And if his game was polished he could be really Good. Obviously this isn't our year anyway, so I'd like to see him after a hard working off season/lockout. I'm guessing he was too busy whining last summer to put in good work.
