I'll take Bird. Bird had a better passing ability, and looked to set up his teamates with beautiful passes inside the paint. As you mentioned, people only compare Dirk and Bird just because they're white and they can shoot. [IMG]

I'd take Dirk. Bird needed Mchale to be great and was very overrated. He was slow and not as good at rebounding as Dirk. The only thing Bird has over Dirk is passing.

You amaze me with your posts some times you are also the most biased member on this board. How many all defensive teams has Dirk been on? NONE. Bird has been on 3.Bird's career stats: 24.3 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 6.3 apg, 49% shooting, 3 NBA titles.Dirk's career stats: 22. 0 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 2.5 apg, 46% shooting, 0 NBA titles.Bird was better than Dirk in every aspect.

The only thing Dirk has on Bird is the fadeaway. Dirk by a mile.

Ballaholic, Dirk was still 7 feet. I mean, SEVEN FEET. Bird was about 3 inches shorter. That's still a difference, man...plus, Dirk is foreign... lol

He is better or equal w/ Dirk in almost every aspect and has three rings. Dirk hasn't even won one yet. Maybe we'll start comparing the two again if Dirk can get three rings.

This thread is basically like Bron/Jordan. It's stupid, but I had to post simply because of mavsfan's comments calling Bird overrated. Why the F*ck are you admin? If you put a player comparison here of a Mavs player even Stack, he will pick him over whoever you put.

I agree with everyone. It's Larry. BUT Dirk is getting better and hopefully will continue to get better along with the Mavs as a whole. He is learning to be clutch like Larry was, but hasn't gotten over the hump yet. He may never be the player Larry was, but that doesn't change the fact that he shows shades of him every now and again, and not just because he's a white shooter.

Bird in a heartbeat. The main difference is that Dirk doesn't want to slaughter everyone on the floor and then drink their blood if he loses. He merely wants to beat them into a pulp. Not as aggressive, really, and it shows, although Dirk's still a fantastic player.

From what I heard about Larry Bird, because I never got a chance to see him play I would say Larry Bird. But I can't really say since I have not see Larry Bird play. Dirk should have steped it up in the finals, and he did not do that.

Bird was a freaking triple-double machine, he was a better rebounder than Dirk. A better passer, tougher, more of a leader. How can you say he needed McHale to be great? That's a bunch of bullsh**. Larry Bird was always great. But we all know he couldn't do it alone, especially against the 80's lakers. That team won a few championships in won of the best era's the leaue will ever know. And you're acting like Dirk doesn't have a great supporting cast? LMAO! he has Jason Terry (who by the way probably would've been the MVp of the finals had the Mavs won), Josh Howard, Jerry Stackhouse, Erick Dampier, Devin Harris. He had plenty of help, and he wasn't even the best on his team in the finals.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Camby_Land @ Jun 20 2006, 08:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>The only thing Dirk has on Bird is the fadeaway. Larry Legend. This isn't even a good comparison.

At this point in time its Bird, but not by as far as some people are making out. Dirk is only 28, and is one of the few guys that actually gets better year after year, even after 8 years or so in the league.I do think he gets into that legend relm of talk evntually, and will make this debate much closer than it is, but right now anyone picking Dirk is being WAY too bias...And that's coming from a huge Dirk and Mavs fan.

I'm f*cking closing this. What is wrong with you people? Topics like this piss me off"Michael Jordan or LeBron""Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant""Dirk Nowitzki or Larry Bird"Bird won multiple MVP awards. Bird was a superioir passer. Bird was superioirly clutch. Bird was better at shooting off the dribble, and in the open. Larry Bird was better at playing the passing lane. Not to mention, Bird won a ton. There is no comparison. Bird is widely considered the best SF of all time. Dirk isn't even argued to be a top 5 PF ever. Bird is arguably top 5 All Time. Dirk isn't even arguably Top 20.Enough of these "Spur of the moment" comparisons. Kobe socres 35 PPG, so he is almost as good as Mike. LeBron gets a few triple doubles, so he is better than Oscar.Enough!
