Cooper, Perlaza guide Portland past Seattle, 2-0

TUKWILA, Wash. — If Friday night was any indication, the Cascadia rivalry is going to be fun.

The Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders renewed their rivalry at the MLS level for the first time Friday night in a preseason friendly, and it was Timbers who emerged victorious, with Jorge Perlaza’s goal the difference in the 2-0 victory in front of 3,100 fans at Starfire Sports Stadium.

Kenny Cooper added another tally in second-half stoppage time to seal the result in front of a raucous crowd of both team’s supporters.

The Timbers next take the field against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at 7 pm ET (streamed live at www.portlandtimbers.com), while the Sounders have a day off before wrapping up the Cascadia Summit on Sunday at 6 pm ET against Vancouver (streamed live on www.soundersfc.com).

Portland keep their unbeaten preseason intact despite Horst's OG

TUKWILA, Wash. – The Portland Timbers kept their unbeaten preseason record intact on Friday night, battling to a 1-1 draw with I-5 rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC at the Starfire Sports complex in Day 2 of the Cascadia Summit.

A pair of defensive oddities — a mishandled save and an own-goal — gifted each side tallies in the first half of a match that was as wide open as it was physically bruising.

The Timbers eked out the early lead in the fifth minute through midfielder Ryan Pore, though the D-2 holdover was the recipient of a fortunate play.

Trialist Brian Umony — the only player in the Timbers' starting 11 without a contract — drove a low shot from the top right corner of the 18-yard box that 'keeper Jay Nolly could only parry onto the post. The ball spun off the woodwork and into the path of Umony, who finished from barely a yard out.

The 'Caps responded in the 36th minute after Atiba Harris served a pass to the left flank to Long Tan, who shot from 25 yards out. The effort forced a good save from Portland 'keeper Aiden Brown as he moved left, but teammate David Horst was ill-positioned and knocked the ball into his own net.

Salgado scores in strong 3-2 victory; Seattle's Fucito injured

TUKWILA, Wash. – Vancouver held off a furious Seattle rally in the closing match of the Cascadia Summit on Sunday as the ‘Caps won 3-2 behind a goal from top SuperDraft pick Omar Salgado, who also helped set up the eventual winner.

The Whitecaps also got goals from Russell Teibert and Camilo Sanvezzo in a strong overall performance to cap a weekend that saw them draw Portland 1-1 on Saturday at the Starfire Sports complex.

Roger Levesque had a goal and an assist for Seattle, but the loss was overshadowed by a serious injury to striker Michael Fucito, who was helped off the field with a hip injury in the first half.
