"When it comes to sending a message, Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer does not mince words. So consider the one sent to Rey Maualuga -- where Zimmer said that he was "extremely average" -- to be received loud and clear. "I think this organization expected a lot out of me when I first stepped foot in this place," Maualuga said. "Then again I expected a lot out of myself as well. It's like you ask the fan sitting out in the stands what stood out from Rey this year and I'm sure people won't say as much. They will say I made a play here or there. I'm not satisfied with how I performed." This past season Maualuga played in every game. He had 81 tackles, six quarterback pressures, a sack and two interceptions. However the only notable plays during his first two years were the sack and forced fumble of Aaron Rodgers in his rookie year at Green Bay and the interceptions against the Jets and Chargers last season."
