Former welterweight titlist Joshua Clottey suffered ankle and wrist injuries when he fell while doing roadwork, forcing him to withdraw from a fight scheduled for Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. "He's got a fracture or just a real bad sprain of the ankle and the wrist," manager Vinny Scolpino said. "It says on the report that a fracture is possible to both." Clottey, who was moving up to junior middleweight, was supposed to box Calvin Green in a scheduled 10-round bout on the undercard of Miguel Cotto's first junior middleweight title defense against former titleholder Ricardo Mayorga. However, Clottey (35-4, 20 KOs) tripped in a pothole and was injured during a Sunday run in the Bronx, N.Y., where he lives and trains. "He was running and then it started to rain and that was it. He tripped in the pothole," Scolpino said. "As he was falling he put his hands down to catch his fall and whacked his wrist. Unbelievable. What are you gonna do? He was by himself.
