I say we pick up gansey if we don't get James. Gansey is a real good guy and a deadly shooter that plays defense.NVM, he's a SG...
Daniels fits in as either either the starter, a 3rd string point guard, or the backup to Howard or Terry. To me he should start the game by default allowing Harris and Stackhouse to come off the bench to add a spark. Something Dallas lacked once Harris started the game.
I don't know either. With Mike James here that could bring tension into the point guard position in that Harris will be unhappy in that he isn't getting his minutes that I think by next year is ready to get an increased role on this team. Daniels will be a bench warmer for sure if Mike James is here and Stackhouse might have to face a major decrease in minutes as well. I think Griffin is the first one to be gone and if we get James than Daniels will probably be gone as well on a trade for either money or a backup pf.
Yeah, if James comes then some minutes might decrease, but even if we hadn't traded Daniels and instead had played him (as you suggested) then minutes would've decreased anyway. It's a no-win situation.
So looks like James is headed to H-Town(good riddance at that contract), who do the Mavs look at now to fill the guard spot? I think we should look Flip Murray, Marcus Banks, Greg Buckner, Trevor Ariza, Jason Hart and even our own guys Armstrong and Griffin now.
I like Banks and Ariza but I think a shooter like Pargo wouldn't be bad. Question can we sign rookies on other teams summer roster? Question 2 how is Grundy playing for us and the Hawks?

Not shut down, but someone who can bother other elite sgs. I think we can sign rookies on other teams but it doesn't make much sense. If we wanted to sign someone from another team, we probably would have picked them up in the first place. On the second question, are you saying Grundy is on two summer league teams? Or are you referring to him being on the Hawks last year and how he's playing for us. Because there's different summer leagues and just like with Pittsnogle, he is playing with Heat first in Vegas and Mavs in Utah.
Thanx for the help ROK. So player can play for summer league regardless of how long they've been in the NBA? who would you suggest for a defender since Christie didn't workout? lol

On who I think we could get as a defender, Greg Buckner, not a big name but a good defender. Sort of like Griff, but younger and more quickness. Another, is Ariza who has the tools and size, and same goes for Marcus Banks. If we sign Mike James though, I think were pretty much set roster wise. Fill it out with resigning DA and possibly Griff.
Just wanted to throw a name out there as a good third pg possibility. Me and Lazy were talking about David Wesley. I think he would be perfect, he played pg at the beginning of his career, and plays good defense, hits the 3 well. Also, is a very team oriented guy. What you think?
He is just as old as Darrell Armstrong. He had a bad year last year and it only goes downhill from here. Atkins would be my guy to pick. Also Eddie House would be good.

I don't mind Atkins either but again, he's not a huge threat from 3 and I don't know if he wants to come off the bench behind Devin and Terry. On Eddie House, I'll pass, that guy jacks it up way too much from 3 to my liking. And that's basically all he does, he can't run a team at all. My choice would still be Marcus Banks as I think he's the best young pg left and despite his bad shooting(he has improved his percentages each year)plays good solid defense. And he's already someone who can run a team better then House. David Lord threw out a possibility of Mavs trading Pavel for a pg. But also said Mavs will try and lock up Griff this weekend and that would be the gist of our offseason as we will weigh our options at pg with time.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>LAS VEGAS - Jose Juan Barea's agent told Hoop-Rap on Thursday that the former Miami Christian High and Northeastern University point guard will be playing for the Dallas Mavericks' summer-league team from Friday until July 19.Barea will complete play in the Vegas Summer League tonight. He has been a huge success for the Golden State Warriors, who want to sign him to a contract and bring him to training camp in October. However, until a contract is signed, Barea is free to explore other opportunities, such as the one in Salt Lake City, Utah with the Mavericks, who made it to NBA Finals this past season."We still have strong interest in Golden State," said Richard Katz, Barea's agent. "We think Golden State is an ideal fit for Jose Juan. But we also have interest in Dallas. Playing for a great organization such as the Mavericks will give Jose Juan another opportunity to showcase his talents."After playing for the Mavericks, Barea will fly to Colombia, where he will play for his country as Puerto Rico is gearing up for the World Games in August."He will play for pride and country," Katz said, "but it also showcases Jose Juan internationally."</div> Just some news about a possibility for third pg. In the end it seems like DA might be coming back as the free agent options/price range are scrace. This guy is a good player though, he's young and is a nice change of pace like DA was. But with a better offensive game. Also, Bulls are interested in Griffin, sort of scares me as other then third pg, we need a backup sf behind Howard. Griff fits that nicely and doesn't disrupt chemisty. I'm hoping we retain him, otherwise Pops Mensah Bonsu has a great shot at making the roster. I know some of you may say why we need a backup sf(something other Mavs boards want over a third pg), it's because we have no size at swings, Stack is more a 2 that can play 3, same goes for Buckner. Ager is undersized and his size is close to sg/pg. As long as we lock up Griff, this offseason has been good and I think we got better. Ager/Buckner/Croshere/third pg added, Daniels/Van Horn/Marshall? out.
I'm with you man.It may not light up the message boards, and be on ESPN's best off season list or the most improved teams or anything...But really, how much better could the Mavs actually get?I mean we've added a younger, quicker, defensive minded guy with a pretty decent outside shot at the 2. Added another 2 guard who can spread the floor, and added a player that's more consistent too back up Dirk...Bring DA back, or another player of that elk, and we'll have had a damn good off season.
Despite losing one of my favorite players in Daniels I am glad that Van Horn will not be back for the mavs. I really thought he was trash from the start and he proved me right with his horrible games with the exception of game 7 against the spurs. Croshere seems like a tougher backup and much better shooter.
I think KVH would have done better if not for all the rust he had because of his injuries, plus inconsistent playing time he got.But yeah, Croshere seems to be a better backup for Dirk anyways.
