In four seasons this guy has under-performed amd his team has yet to win a ploff game. Franchise player? Not a chance.
He can be but he has to live up to his max. potential (20 and 10 player). He'll be the face ofthe Grizzlies.
He's better than what Dirk was a few years ago.He is the Grizzlies Franchise player, and they keep making the playoffs. I say yes.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Bowles @ Jun 21 2006, 11:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>He's where Dirk was a few years ago. I think he can get there, but he's going to need more help.</div>Yea I agree...He has potential to be a franchise player, but as of right now, no.
The only thing Gasol does better than Dirk did in 02-03 when he was his age is pass. He doesn't shoot as well or rebound as well as Dirk did. He defends better than Dirk did.Really they're different players, Gasol does more interior scoring while Dirk has always been and was especially at that age a perimeter threat. Gasol doesn't shoot threes really while Dirk used to live off of it. They're different but I think there's still a lot that Gasol can add, just as Dirk could add a lot to his game.
The problem with Gasol is he needs the ball on offense to be effective. He is not a good passer out of a double team and his offensive moves are predictable and Dallas was able to contain. Also he tends to wear out as the game goes by and doesn't play as well in the second half.
He's not a franchise player, he's too inconsistant. He's a great 17/9 type player. He can definatly improve but he really hasn't.
If the Grizzlies want to make a step towards team success, they have to win at least ONE game in the playoffs...

I don't think so. He can score and rebound, but he still has shown inability to take over games. Until he can do that, I can't put him int hat category

I agree he gets fatigued though. But to answer this question: Is Gasol a franchise player? Yes, I think so. But don't knock on him for not advancing very far, I mean Tim Duncan didn't get passed Dallas either. I think Gasol is a franchise player, he's a good scorer with a pretty finesse game, he uses both hands well, he will power it down in your face, he's a good rebounder, he's an excellent passer for a big man, and he can defend (needs a little work, but he's solid). I think when Damon Stoudamire is back that will help him a lot because Pau will have a playmaker. Then you figure they are going to make some type of deals. Get Pau Gasol a banger in the paint and a different perimiter scorer they will do some playoff damage.
of course he is a franchise player. He would be the best player on a decent number of teams in the league IMO. and he is like a 20 and 10 player almost...

I was just proving him wrong. And no, Shawn Marion is also the third best player on his team so you cant use that. He would be a franchise player for the bobcats or another awful team like the knicks...
