    Re: Payton & Mourning...

I know this is kind of too early for this, but do you think that Payton and Mourning will stick around for next year or do you think they'll retire now since they got their rings? :g: I personally think that if they stick around, there is a slight chance that the Heat might not win again and also I don't think that they will play like they did this year (they wanted their 1st ring badly and stepped up big for it and got it). But if they retire, it won't be bad at all. I mean, they would finish their careers having won a championship, as well as several All-Star appearances, Defensive Player awards, etc. and there's really nothing that tops that. :dunno:

I think one of them will retire. Zo probably because of his kidney and that sense of accomplishment. I still could see Payton playing one more year.

I think both will retire. Mourning was extremely close to not even returning back this season, but he decided to give it a shot one last time for a chance at a title. Then Payton has hinted during the season that if he gets his ring, he'll likely be done as well. They can definitely still play, but I don't see either returning.

I agree here, they probably won't be back since both were just playing to win a championship. I think it might be a good thing though, maybe Pat Riley can throw in some scorers in the bench. It also gives playing time to Wright, I think he can be good as a backup.Zo was a good defensive presence down in the paint but we had him really to backup Shaq more then anything. Our bench will look something like this (with no additions)PoseyAndersonWrightDoleac :dunno: Riley should make getting a backup center the #1 priority.

And are you sure Posey isn't going to opt out of his contract? Also, Anderson is too old, he'll basically be on injured reserved all year unless we're desperate. Too bad he activated the last year on his contract. [IMG] We have a lot of work to do this offseason with our bench and we don't have much cap. I agree though finding a nice young backup center that we could groom behind shaq should be a top priority. Will be interesting to see what Riley has up his sleeve, becasue at this point, honestly it's not looking too good for us.

Posey opt out? Why would he if he just won a championship? Yes our bench needs lots of work, I thought it was bad enough with Gary and Zo on it.

    Re: Payton & Mourning...

I think I heard GP say he was going to stay for 1 more year in an interview after the Game 6 win, Im not sure how effective he'll be seeing as how there is no sense of urgency getting a ring. Mourning will probably retire because of kidney problems. I think Posey will stay. Wright has a whole summer to gain muscle and workout, and the Heat didnt have much cap last year(at least I dont think) and they pulled off a hell of an off-season. Don't worry Riley always finds a way to make his team better. BTW I'm sure we can get a backup C. I mean we just won a championship Im sure people will want to sign with us.

I'm thinking that Zo will for sure be the one to retire. I mean, he's a great backup center to Shaq but I think his getting his ring was the last thing he wanted to do to finish up his career. GP on the other hand, might retire or might decide to play another year. I honestly don't know but I think if he stayed, he could be a great backup to J-Will again but wouldn't play like he did this year. For sure though, I think that the Heat need to be looking for a backup C because I don't really see Doleac being the type of backup C that the Heat needs. As far as the bench goes, I think it will be about the same: Posey, Simien, Wright, and maybe Doleac. Very few changes but if any, hopefully, they will be backup C and maybe another backup G if GP leaves, to backup J-Will & Wade. As for Wright, I think if given the chance, he'll prove himself. He won't be a starter but he'll be a decent backup. And from what I understand, he played pretty good in the D-League. Plus, he has time to bulk up and raise his game in the offseason.

There will be BIG changes if we want to make another run, because right now our bench is horendous.
