I've thought about buying one, probably used (via CL or ebay).

What is a good brand, that isn't a ton a money?

I'm gonna be installing a sound system in my car within the coming weeks. Check out crutchfield.com.

What's your budget? Also by "Surround Sound" I assume you mean not only a receiver/amp, but speakers as well?

Yes, I meant speakers as well. I saw one on CL (I don't remember the brand, but it was a good one) for 100 bucks, used.

If you only plan on spending $100, dont even waste Bob's time.

Not sure I'd be "wasting" his time since I didn't personally ask him for help. And you can get a good one for that much money, as long as you *gasp* don't mind buying used.

I know some of you JP's out there are opposed to buying used things, but not everyone here is.

Lol. I don't know about getting a "good" system for a 100, but you can get one. I have no problem with used personally. I started looking yesterday assuming a 200 budget though and found these right off:

    Samsung with wireless rears

    JBL system

My suggestion to you would be to find a system that's not a "box" setup, but one with a Real receiver. The box setups usually have a receiver/dvd player combo. The reason I suggest this is that you can build off of it down the road. Say you want to add a bluray player, game system, etc. Most of the all-in-ones aka Home Theater in a Box setups don't have inputs for extra stuff like an xbox.

Here's one with receiver and separate speakers:
