With the likelihood of a lockout seemingly increasing every day, I begun to wonder about how this will affect our team. The first and most imminent question for me deals with the contracts of our players. Next year is in theory supposed to be our year, with all the contracts aligning for each position (minus a backup center and backup point guard). So if there is a lockout, say for the whole season, does Paul Allen still dish out that money and then all contracts progress a year - a year that we are theoretically supposed to make a run for a championship? Would we have to start over and possibly resign Wallace, Miller, Oden, etc. for the next year? How does that facet of contracts work? The point is obvious, because if there's a lockout and next season is skipped then I'll be pissed! Sure, this problem assumes good health and team/player options, but the question still stands. Then again, maybe the lockout will only induce a shortened season, is this a good thing for us or a moot point? What do you all say? Am I overreacting? Will all be okay? Will our brief window still exist in the post-lockout league? What should the Blazers do if there is a full season lockout - resign Miller, Oden, and Camby? Any thoughts?
Not sure becasue we don't know what the new rules will be. But a a season long lock out might hurt the older teams and help the younger teams. Boston, LA and SA would not be getting any younger even with a year of rest. Teams who have health issues may benefit as it gives an extra year to get healthy. But yes I would resign Oden for 3-4 years. Maybe Camby and Miller for one more year. A whole year would suck though. I am guessing that teams would be able to help with injured players. But yes it will be a freakin mess. Stern is such as stubborn and egotistical ass that who knows how long it could last. Not sure he will compromise much.
Championship run? They're barely in a championship crawl. I think we'll pretty much see a season like the 99 season, and they'll keep most of the players here. Maybe they'll make a lopsided trade (with teams desperate to shed money).
Well, I don't agree that our championship chances are out the window. And if you are focusing on the word "run" then w/e idc. I see next year as the most likely chance in the near future of making some real noise. Perhaps in a couple more years we could as well, but next year is guaranteed (contract wise). It would be a bummer to say the least for the whole year to just be nullified. But as Pinwheel says, it presents problems for everyone though I suppose so it's equally messy for the league really.
i think we will win one during the lockout, and two the next year an extra year for roy/oden to heal=good? an extra year for everyone else=bad?
