They said earliest would be march 17th vs Knicks. That really could hurt their playoff chances IMO. They have a brutal schedule in march as well. Injury is a separated shoulder.
We will see, now, if ZBo can carry the Griz to the playoffs as LMA did so far. If history tells us something... that would be unlikely.
Nico can tell you how serious a separated shoulder can be. If he comes back, he'll be a shell of himself and if the Grizz are in the playoff hunt, you can expect the other playoff teams competing for a spot to run him through screen after screen taking shots at that shoulder.
A separated shoulder must be a nasty injury (never gone through it) because Gay only has a partially separted shoulder and he is out for a minimum of 4 weeks.
ZBo may gone before the trade deadline as well (I've been reading a lot of ZBo to the Magic rumors). Not sure what the Grizz would get in return, but with ZBo potentially on his way out and Gay injured for the forseeable future, doesn't look like the Grizz will be moving up in the conference standings.
Out for the season. (and the playoffs) http://www.nba.com/2011/news/03/22/grizzlies-gay.ap/?ls=iref:nbahpt2
I believe the Grizz are the 8th best team in the West and will hold down that spot. I just don't how how they'll do against SA come playoff time if Rudy Gay can't get back to form quickly.
The guy has not played since mid February, so I don't think this changes much for a team that now has Shane B and has been playing well since Gay has been out. Yes is sucks for them in terms of depth, but they don't seem to miss him all that much.
Zach has now destroyed the "Sergio Theory" that you can justify Blazer moves with how many teams traded a player after we traded him for nothing. This has now been replaced with the new "Jack Theory" that just because a guy has one flaw doesn't mean we'll find a better replacement. The model is being computer tested on 10,000 simulations before taking final form.
Grizz will still make it in. They've been playing well without Gay for a while now. They have great size down low w/ Marc and Z-Bo and Conley is coming into his own. I think the Jazz are toast, Phoenix isn't talented enough & Houston, while on fire now, should fizzle out quickly enough.
