Unbeaten Commonwealth welterweight champion Denton Vassell (17-0, 9 KO’s) successfully defended his title for the first time on Saturday night beating 29-year-old challenger Bethuel Ushona (23-1, 8 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Robin Park Centre, in Wigan, Lancashire. The final judges’ scores were 118-111, 117-113, and 117-112. Many of the rounds were very close and almost impossible to score.
