he Milwaukee Brewers were excited about their starting pitching when they acquired Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum in offseason trades to go with incumbent Yovani Gallardo.

Greinke only made two starts before it was discovered that he had a broken rib, sustained during a pickup basketball game. Marcum was shut down for nearly two weeks after experiencing shoulder tightness in a start against the Chicago White Sox on March 17.

Many of the team's fears were eased on Monday when Marcum returned.

Marcum pitched four innings, giving up three runs and four hits as a Brewers split-squad beat the San Diego Padres 5-4. Ryan Braun hit two homers and Rickie Weeks added another for Milwaukee.
