It's truly depressing. Just when he was hitting the zenith of his career, it all came crashing down. He's been reduced to a decoy; all he does is fake a drive to the hoop and pass off.

He's not Brandon Roy anymore. He's just some guy with that name.

If we could cut his contract I would do it in an instant. But that option isn't available right now, a decision can be considered once we are at that bridge, today we are stuck with him.

But right now he is playing ~20 mins every single game and its obviously not working, yet he has been effective during his immediate returns from extended periods of rest. For now I'd scale back his minutes to where he is contributing at a higher level. I'd rather see Patty/Rudy/Batum get his extra minutes, he is not helping the team on the floor at his current level of performance.

I think he is trying to do too much, if he could accept that his role is going to be limited he would be perfect off the bench. He should focus on posting up, and spot up shooting. He should watch Steve Smith footage and attempts to transform. He has the skill set to be a great post-up guard, and a nice shooter.

from almost superstar to "there is no cartilage" just happened too fast for us, let alone him, to comprehend...i still catch myself believing he will be back someday, but maybe this really is it.... :(

Honestly, I don't begrudge B-Roy the money at all.

He is the reason Portland fans are even following this team these days and has added enough value to the team in ticket and merchandice sales he pretty much earned his current contract.

I just wish it didn't count against Portland's cap.

B-Roy isn't the same player he was.
The odds of him ever getting even half way back to that level seem pretty small right now.

    It just sucks.

Yep. The last person I blame is Roy. He's worked his ass off and made himself the best player he can be. It's not his fault and the Blazers did the right thing rewarding him. He and Kevin Pritchard saved this franchise.

Keep in mind that the travel is less and the rest in the playoffs is of greater length than in the regular season. There are no back-to-backs, and often times there are two or three full days of rest. There is no playing a night game, flying to another city, getting in at 3am, and then having a game the next night.

I don't know if this well help Roy much, but I'm sure it won't hurt him.

I agree with you. Roy was one in-and-out jumper from shooting 50% last night. Very few players shoot 50% anymore. Let alone guys coming in cold off the bench. Bench players are inconsistent shooters because of that, and why most players would rather start.

Roy may not be the player he once was, but he is still a good offensive player. Steve Smith is a good comparison. A big 2-guard who started his career playing a lot at the point as well.

Right now the bench has no continuity. They need to get in to a better rhythm. But then so do the starters. They have been playing great at home. Just not on the road. I went to the Dallas Game last night and watched Kidd. You put him or Nash next to Roy and problem solved. Roy is not a PG. But he can still flat out shoot the rock.

But as I said , with guys coming off the bench they sometimes take time to warm up. And then it is too late. They are back on the bench. Not an easy role for a shooter.

Mentally, Roy needs to control the offense or he makes mistakes, as he has been making. When he can't slow down the tempo, he makes unforced turnovers. If he's not the team star, he is much much less of a player.

That's true for a lot of players. Losing 50% of his talents made him 25% of the player he was. The regression is geometric, not arithmetic (adjective form is pronounced ar-ith-MEH-tic).

But McMillan is good at figuring out the best situations to play role players who are good at some things but not at other talents (Outlaw, Blake, etc.). Maybe Roy will last.

4 years ago.... We were the team to be feared!!! A blooming B Roy, a once in a lifetime center in GO and a versatile PF in LA! Our big three were set for the next decade!

Sometimes all you can do is laugh! How many other teams have lost this type of talent so quickley and still hung on to their fans and are even sniffing the playoffs?

The big three now will be LA, Wallace, and GO if he comes back.... and that's not all bad with Andre, Nick, Marcus and Wes supporting them! Our team has rolled with the punches for sure and so have the fans!!

For those of you that either don't want to believe it, or haven't paid attention, Roy's knees are bad and will never be better. They are bone on bone and will never be the same. Every so often Brandon will be able to have a good game, but this is what he is, and will never be different. His knees have deteriorated as much as they can since they are bone on bone.

I think someone needs to tell NATE this too!!!!! He like many here think the old BRoy will just take over a game! Sadly B Roy is hurting this team and the last two games its been painfully obvious!

There's the rub. This was a legit, basketball related injury. Financialy, the team owes Roy compensation......would they shouldn't have to owe him, is a crippling handicap to the team's ability to compete.

Yah, the mental mistakes are DEFINITELY related to his physical condition. If you have ever played with a major knee/foot injury, you know this to be true. His body can no longer accomplish what his mind still knows how
to do. Yet he tries, holding on to hope that he can still regain at least some form of his past self. You try to compensate, then mistakes happen.

exactly. Outside of a medical miracle procedure being developed shortly, I don't know of any reason to hope that anything is going to change with Brandon's ability to contribute. If this is true, how long does the team keep giving him meaningful minutes? Dude had all last offseason to heal up plus he took a significant break during this season. If things really aren't going to significantly change for the better for him, I'd rather he improve his chances of staying out of a wheelchair in his mid to later life. The current mix of extended stretches of mortality with occasional flashes of BR of old are tough to watch... I'd really prefer more of the Rudy and Patty show
