Aldridge didn't develop until this year. Blazers still haven't gotten out of first round in playoffs. It didn't pay off.

Wouldn't have hurt to have kept. More versatility on the team. Rushed bad move just like I said at that time.

even at his production now, and this year, off court issues in the rear view, leading his team to the playoffs, what do you think the grizz could have got for him if they tried to deal him before the deadline?

    diddly.

you say rushed bad move now, just like you said at the time....

both times you said that are just your opinion, and not the popular one either time.

Deron williams. But maybe they let him walk and enjoy the cap space...so they get a $ 20 million dollar contact off the books. Certainly got value. That isn't diddly squat....more than we eber got out of francis or frye. All star appearance and trip to the playoffs fire a team that just doesn't get there

The thing is the grizzlies aren't looking to dump zbo because he turned their franchise around

I've noticed Randolph dunks now. Not baby dunks, but on putbacks and drives across the lane. Good sign that one can recover from microfracture and that he's playing with drive and purpose. Good to see. The league needs more players playing to their potential.

Aldridge immediately averaged 18/8 after Randolph was traded, and those years he developed little by little to be the player he is today. It's an experience/cumulative thing and trading Randolph allowed Aldridge to get it.

Blazers still haven't gotten out of first round, true, but they immediately were a better team after trading Randolph and have been .500 or better since while letting their young players grow. Great trade off.

    "Wouldn't have hurt to kept"

This is where we obviously disagree. I think keeping Randolph could have prevented the growth of Roy and Aldridge while being ridiculously overpaid. You even hinted above that dumping his bloated salary wasn't a bad idea.

As far as versatility, not sure how much I buy that. He was a ball stopper who played no defense. "StatBO"

In the end the Blazers have been a better team since while Randolph after 4 years has finally been able to have some team success. Looks like the Blazers didn't lose much, and the argument that the Blazers didn't get enough for Randolph doesn't hold any water. They got nothing just like the Knicks and Clippers got nothing.

Re: Is it time for me to stick it to the ZBo haters yet?

Was it trading Randolph or was it getting Roy and Aldridge and the rest of the team outside of their rookie year? It was just they got an upgrade in talent. ZBO didn't open up any pt. Aldridge up until this season was still the same soft, shoot outside rarely go inside and bang. ZBO being here doesn't do shit to the team. what, would they NOT have made the playoffs?

And as I said, the Clippers and Knicks have always had shitty front offices. If you want to put the Blazers in that same sentence, that's all on you.

Like I said at the time, Pritchard deserved to get FIRED for that shitty trade (and I think that he was eventually due to the trade and the false promises of imaginary cap space).

We also got Rudy out of the deal eventually didn't we?

I though wasn't one for trading him at the time.

$20 million expiring contracts are very attractive.

The thing is, ZBO wasn't really on the market. The grizzlies want to make that playoff run and can't do it without him.

besides, the blazers were improving the 2 previous seasons before ZBO got traded. It was a reasonable trajectory if you look at their record.

    http://www.nbauniverse.com/teams/records_portland_trailblazers.htm

There was zero incentive to trade. totally rushed.

He was Stat-bo because he needed to be. Who else on those teams would you have trusted? they were a totally talent depleted team and SOMEONE had to put the ball in the hoop. Zach is best as a garbage man.

his contract expires this summer at $20m, the one we gave him.

"overpaid" only got an all star appearance and is leading a bad team back to the Playoffs.

We certainly could have used his rebounding and low post scoring the past few seasons or his expiring contract. We certainly didn't get anything back in return for him.
