How would we have him? We could not get CP3 for Raef's contract - and we would not have a high-potential guy like Favors to give for Deron. If we are playing what-if - I say that the what-if that Oden was never injured and Roy was never injured and we were contending year in year out is just as likely.

New Orleans wasn't in the same financial situation back then as they were earlier this year. Batum isn't a high potential guy? He's probably a lot better and further along than Favors with a higher ceiling plus New Orleans liked him. I don't know if you were around last summer or earlier this season but there were tons of CP3 rumors and speculation he wanted to be traded.

He won the NBA Cares Community Assist Award:

Dre wasn't even the backup plan. Paul Millsap was.

What I love about this entire thread is that no one is saying "you can't make the playoffs with a team that is centered around Zach Randolph." That phrase was tossed around here repeatedly and now those people have been silenced. Thus, this thread.

    Checkmate.

the Hornets have been a big loser financially since Katrina sapped it's fanbase/community of much of it's disposable income. They had to play 2 seasons in Olk. City immediately after and have been among the league's worst in attendance since despite having some pretty good teams and a true superstar. They had one of the least wealthy owners in the league in George Shinn who had been unsuccessfully trying to sell them for years before basically declaring hardship and requiring the league to buy him out earlier this season. But make no doubt about finances being very tough in New Orleans for some time now.

whats really different about their situation is that Chris Paul's contract ends after next season and quite clearly he's leaving town. When (not if) he is traded, I'd expect it to be to the Eastern Conference. Teams don't want to face their former star who left them any more then they have to.

I'm sure every team likes Nicolas, but a versatile wing player simply doesn't have supply and demand on their side like an athletic Big does. Of course as a 3rd year pro he's further along then a 19 year old rookie but I really don't think non-Blazer fans would share your view as to who has more upside... at best this is an arguable point

Well, in that case, I have to look at team success. The Blazers have been more successful with LMA as their starting PF than the Knicks, Clips, or Griz have been with ZBO as their starting PF. I'm not sure where you were going with the above, but wins are wins. LMA wins more than ZBO, who has bounced around the league, and is still yet to get an extension after almost 2 years of "All-Star" play.

Who said that? My argument has always been "a team centered around Zach Randolph has never made the playoffs, or will never win a title". Congrats to max-contract Zach for finally making the playoffs, but I'm not sure who this thread is directed toward.

You live in some fantasy world where Zach Randolph could bring a Deron Williams, and I'm the crazy person?

Anyhow, I'm glad your hero Zach made something of himself. I'm a bit surprised that he isn't in prison, but with the rumors out there, that may still be in his future. I don't really care to discuss him further, unless the Blazers are playing the Griz. Arguing hypothetical with a crazy person who assigns unrealistic trade value to ZBO is an even bigger waste of time than normal.

lol what? so zbo is so good that his expiring contract is worth more than his actual skill? glad you agree, although this season that would be zero, with teams like sacramento with over 10 million in pure cap space and teams with max trade exceptions...but yeah okaaay

So....this season, ZBOEC = zero since Sacramento has 10 million in cap space. ok.

that and the trade exceptions, there were MUCH better options for a pure salary dump, you should realize that, you really should....but you dont haha

    I know it's hilarious hahaha.

He either lives in a fantasy world or knows he's dead wrong so he still keeps on saying ZBO = Deron or CP3 when we all know that would never happen.

There isn't a worse year to have a large expiring contract. Who knows what the new CBA will bring?
