Ubaldo Jimenez still uncertain for Friday

    The Colorado Rockies plan to take a cautious approach with the cracked cuticle on Ubaldo Jimenez's pitching hand.

    Rockies manager Jim Tracy hasn't ruled the hard-throwing righty out of his scheduled start Friday in Pittsburgh, but won't make any definitive decisions until Jimenez tosses a bullpen session Wednesday -- his hand willing, of course.

    Jimenez had tape on his right thumb in hopes of speeding along the healing process. And while the thumb is beginning to feel better, Jimenez said he can still feel it.

    In Friday's opener, Jimenez couldn't generate spin on his breaking pitches, giving up six runs -- five earned -- in six innings against Arizona. The next day Jimenez revealed the hidden reason behind his poor outing: He couldn't put any pressure on the ball, losing sizzle on his blazing fastball.
