I've been throwing around roster suggestions on my blog lately, but I thought I'd run a quick bit on the three signings I'd make immediately if I were Scott Howson and dealing with a perfect world scenario where the players say yes regardless of their interest in the team.. First, I'd throw an offer sheet Shea Weber's way. Probably around 7.5 million, it would set the team back in the long run with first round picks, but bring Columbus one of the best defensemen in the league, negating any real need to develop defensemen immediately. Secondly, I'd make a competitive offer to Brad Richards, comparing his linemate of Rick Nash to any number of the two man tag teams around the league. This would basically dominate the league, with a player like Richards being one of the best passers in the NHL opening space for Nash to dangle the opposition. Finally, I'd sign a better goalie than Garon. Notable names would be Hedberg (currently NJ) or Harding (currently MIN). Both are goalies who can play well enough to take the position from Mason, but are fully capable as backups if Mason gets into a groove. I think that creating competition for Mason will force him to go back into his rookie season groove, where he felt that there was nothing to lose. What would you guys do? I think the Jackets defense is the first thing that needs repairs, but a top line center and a quality backup aren't far behind...
Man I'm not sure I like that, but yeah...the Jackets definitely have to do something. I'm. Tired. Of. Losing. Every. Year.
