With the UFC's lightweight division up for grabs he could have a legitimate case. Hes destroying the much inferior SF/Dream guys. Do you guys think hes the #1 LW in the world? Would he beat Edgar? Maynard? Pettis? Penn?

I'd say no. Just because the UFC's LW division is up for grabs doesn't vault Gil to the top of the heap beating inferior talent.

To me Gil's win over Kawarji just cemented the fact that a lot of the Japanese fighters were over rated. I think Gil is in the mix if he moved to the UFC, but he'd be like 90% of the other top UFC, win 2-3, lose 1. I don't think he could blitz Maynard or Eddie like he did on Saturday and both have very good standup and excellent wrestling skills.

The wrestling is the biggest impediment at this point in his career. We just don't know how good he is in that respect and Edgar/Maynard are both very good at it.

I think he'd be a top 5 LW in the UFC though. Perhaps I'm buying into his fights too much because his competition does blow but I think hes the real deal. Melendez/Pettis would be awesome.

I like Edgar in the Edgar/Maynard rematch. I think the road Frankie had to take to be champion is a lot harder than the one Melendez has taken.

Only one way to find out, though.

No doubt the UFC LW division is very tough. I like Edgar too but I'm biased against Maynard.

I think Gilbert can hang with these guys.

I think he can too, but it's very tough to tell as he could be a big fish in a small pond like jeremy horn before he hit the UFC. Loads of ppl were saying he was going to be a nightmare for Chuck Liddell to face, yadda, yadda, yadda and he offered Chuck next to nothing and he was a middle of the pack talent in the end.
