If I think the green chicks in Star Trek look nasty, does that make me a racist?

The problem is you define his universe as "Wade, LeBron, Durant, Rose and a few others". I define his universe as "NBA player". By that definition, he receives an unbelievable amount of calls his way.

In my family we did not use racist language (unless we were directly quoting another person). Unlike some, I was raised with good family values. And of course the point holds that anyone else would have been T'd. And that his apology is a huge piece of crap, he said that no one should be offended he used a slur because he really doesn't think that. Dude, you said it.

I do realize, however, there are those who would defend ANYTHING Kobe Bryant does, I mean, he could be an axe murderer and there are Laker fans who would say the victims were asking for it and Bryant did nothing wrong.

Kyl should have said that 100% of babies aborted at Planned Parenthood end up dead.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
He should be banned from the league too, making him ineligible for the Hall of Fame.

Actually, I like watching him play, but if it happened, going to read LakersGround would be fun.

He should be forced to coach a WNBA team this summer, so he can learn tolerance of those with different lifestyles.

pfft that was the slap on the wrist I expected, that is a joke, had he been suspended, he would had to have forfeited a games pay and not been available to play for what ever game. That would have been a hell of a lot more money.
fkn guy get away once again

we need a new commissioner for the NBA, Stern is a joke.

That's a big fine, but at the same time only 1/248 of his annual salary. It's equivalent to a $250 dollar fine for someone making $60,000 a year. That's mind-boggling money he's making.

Sorta surprised by my sentiment ( because... well, it's Kome), but kudos to him for owning up to it rather than squirming around it.

“What I [Kobe] said last night should not be taken literally. My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period,” Bryant said in a statement issued through the Lakers. “The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone.”

At least now we can say the league isn't biased towards Kobe Bryant because they punish him publicly and quickly for something that anyone would be punished for. We can put that rumor to rest now.

Is Phil Jackson too insecure or immature to acknowledge the people that would actually be offended by the comments? I don't think the cowboys/horses care, nor do I think the cowboys/horses care if he addresses the proper audience. Especially when I think the gay community would be offended that he apologized to the horses and not them. Worst apology ever.

Typical Phil arrogance. His players are above the rules of the NBA, and he's above the rules of society. That "apology" was not only insincere and disingenuous, but condescending as all hell. He would have been better off saying no comment than spouting that arrogant load of crap.

But, he's Phil Jackson, he has a lot of rings and doesn't give a fuck what the public, or any segment of the public, thinks about him. Zen master my ass. What a fraud. Such arrogance and indifference to the feelings of others is totally counter to the zen philosophy. Yeah, he read the book, but his actions prove he doesn't get it - and doesn't care.

I thought that was hilarious of Phil. There is a place for real angst and there is a place for not being so politically correct. People can get upset at whatever they want - This movie got all the fame because of the sexual material in it - so it's OK to refer to it in this way - but not OK to do so as a joke? Please. I bet that if Phil were to say a title of a Porno flick no-one would care - because there are no interest groups that get offended.

Kobe used a term in a negative way - the uproar was legitimate. Phil did not - he made a joke. Big effin' deal. People that can't accept that there will be some fun made at an area they care about are in for a disappointment. This is the nature of the world. As long as it is not done in a malicious way - no harm done.
