Boise State reserve defensive tackle J.P. Nisby was dismissed from the team Thursday after he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery for allegedly choking a man.

The incident happened at a downtown Boise bar on April 3, when Nisby saw a man with whom he had an ongoing dispute, according to The Idaho Statesman, which cited a police report. Nisby started choking the man for a short time until they were separated, according to the report.

The misdemeanor battery charge is punishable by up to six months in jail.
