Just when things looked like they were coming together for Toronto FC, the team was horrendous in a 3-0 home loss to D.C. United on Saturday night.

Toronto’s worst start of the season doomed it, despite a spirited second-half, most of which was spent with a man down.

Slow starts have been a consistent, and troubling trend for head coach Aron Winter and his players.

“The worst part about it is the coaches told us before the game, our warmup was poor. They saw it and they adjusted,” said defender Nana Attakora, who played well.

“They tell us every game don’t start off slow ... it’s not acceptable, we’re killing ourselves right now.”

Did Winter see any positives TFC-wise?

“The fans, they were great,” he said.

Winter said the team is rebuilding and losses are a part of that, but it was the way the team lost — horrible start, bad passes, lack of effort — that disturbed him.
