Picked up a Motorola Xoom recently... and OMG I love it! Sitting outside in the backyard watching the kids and surfing the web. I was a bit torn between Xoom and Ipad2, and there are definitely ways I think the IPad2 is better... the OS is more proven than Android Honeycomb, but I have never been much an Apple fan and hate being restricted in what I can do or download. I have a decent smartphone too... but the display is just so damn small it is hard for me to do much on it. So far I love the Xoom. I think all of the tablets have a ways to go in some ways... but already they are very useful. The next feew years is going to be very cool for tablets.
I played with the Blackberry Playbook today. Sucks BALLS. Hard to navigate, slow hangups and no built in email client. what the fuck son. I'll prob get an ipad2 later. not a big thing to me right now.
does the Xoom have Swype? I fucking love Swype. only thing that kills me is with android is the apple aps come out earlier and are usually way better. Zinio (magazine app) for example and the Skype app is way better.
I have a Xoom, too. Its still going through growing pains, but each day it gets better. Like you said, iPad is too restrictive, and what's the point of a browsing the web without flash? Sure they have more apps right now, but honeycomb will get them all with time. There will be 4 or 5 tabs out running on honeycomb soon.
Xoom has a 10.1 inch screen and iPad a 9.7 inch. Can these be used as one's main computer? Are they touch screen?
Not really, they are too slow & only run mobile apps designed for them. Yes, both have touch screens which is good for compactness and basic use, but if you want to do anything heavy duty a keyboard sure comes in handy.
Not yet... but Swype said a few weeks agao they are very close to releasing it. I definitely want swype... it is kind of a pain to type pecking on key at a time. They have a minu bluetooth keyboard you can use for it that works nice if you want to type something... but Swype will be very cool.
I was debating the Playbook too... especially since I already have a Blackberry and it would provide nice integration with my work Email... but then I got to thinking... do I really want work in my face anymore than it already is? =) I work with people in just about every timezone so my email isn't restricted to normal hours... and I already spend too much time working as it is. I am kind of glad to hear Playbook sucks. I asked Verizon how much it would cost me to tether my Playbook to my Blackberry which I already have an unlimitted data plan for, and they said $20 bucks a month! Forget that.
If all you do is surf the web, access email etc... then possibly... but if you are into heavy duty gaming and other apps... then no. Really... most of what I do on the computer away from work is surf and email... but I wouldn't want to sacrifice my PC. BTW... this board looks great on the Xoom. Also BTW... I though 10 inch screen would actually be bigger lol... remember they measure it diagonally so it isn't even as big as a sheet of paper. It is nice and portable though. I will definitely be multitasking while watching TV more.
Thats awesome to hear....im debating over which tablet to get as well.... How is the music interface? is it better than some of the android phones? On my phone i cant even load a song directly into a playlist wtf
I haven't loaded my music but I will report back when I do. From the reviews I saw online it looked good. Has anyone tried out bluetooth stereo headphones? Opinions?
Thanks, Klinky and Paxil. I'm thinking of a portable touch screen as my main computer. There are several 12" screens and one 13". I don't think they come any bigger. iPad doesn't multi-task. By that they mean you can't listen to music while surfing, but I'm not sure whether they also mean you can't have 2 windows open at once if they're the same type of window.
I use it to play music all the time. I like the stock player, and the widget is really convenient on the main screen. I don't really do playlists, so I'm not sure how those work. Yes, I have become such a lazy ass. The thing is on my lap at all times when I'm lounging around.
the best thing about it, which was something I was concerned about, the battery lasts forever. it's pretty amazing, especially when you're used to shitty laptop batteries.
I hate apple. http://www.dailytech.com/Apple is Tracking its iPhone iPad Users Every Move/article21429.htm
Google maps with gps is awesome. Sitting in parking lot at sons ball practice and it shows me in the exact parking space. This thing is going to be awesome for geocaching.
In comments at the bottom is this link. Police can hear you through your cell phone microphone, even when turned off, and have used it as evidence. http://www.zdnet.com/news/fbi-taps-cell-phone-mic-as-eavesdropping-tool/150467
I wanna pick this up today.... And ironically, today is the day the OS gets updated (or at least the process starts)
