Hey how about all us fans look past our differences and enjoy this win. I love Roy and almost went into tears with his game play tonight. We are all fans of the Blazers and we won. 2 days of rejoicing please!
I said it in November and I will say it now: Roy is a scorer. That is what he brings to the table. Shooters need to shoot in order to get a ryhthm. Coming in cold off the bench will not work every night. Same with all bench players. So when he gets in the lane he needs to be aggressive. He did pass well tonight, but he is not a PG. He needs to be in the game with a PG. Next year I bet Rudy will be gone and the Blazers get a real PG to compliment Brandon.
To me it Brandon starting off looking like his usual uncertain self, then all of a sudden said "Fuck it, I'm fucking doing this" and just started making plays. Good for him. Apology accepted! Roy just has figure out what he CAN do, and do that. That's what he did tonight. Now, Do it again!
If Roy can be the poised, veteran scorer off the bench this playoffs, that would be huge. I'm not going to overreact to one game, but it certainly is encouraging that Roy might still have a higher ceiling than mediocre reserve. If he can become a latter-career Steve Smith...awesome.
Can he be the scoring spark off the bench like tonight on a consistent basis? He's still a good shooter and should be able to knock down open shots and get the separation he needs to hit a J, but I just can't get behind giving him more minutes and saying he's back until he begins to do this on a regular basis. 1 good game every 3 games isn't going to cut it, this isn't the regular season anymore. It's a huge risk because he's a liability on defense if he's knocking down shots or not. I agree with what was stated above, he shouldn't be hopelessly driving to the rim when he has no chance to finish to ultimately make a bad pass with a high probability of turning the ball over. His role should be hitting down open jump shots and creating separation to hit his nice little 12 foot fade-away. He's a shooter and we should let him shoot, he can still get hot. Beyond that is out of his skill set at this time. When he tries to force it he turns the ball over. He just needs to figure out what he is still capable of and stick with it. Oh and I can't stand watching him when he doesn't have the ball. He stands on the wing and watches, no movement or energy at all. He should be running around trying to get away from the defender, coming around screens to hit jump shots. It's not just Roy, for whatever reason this team goes through stretches of stagnant offense.
These are my favorite threads. Roy mixes in 1 good game out of his last 10 and some jack wagon comes on here and tries to say he is still a good player. Last night was probably the worst thing that could have happened to the team overall. Roy had his 1 good game and now Nate will overuse him going forward and the team will suffer.
I found myself yelling, "Yeah! Go in there and MAKE Nate give you minutes by producing when you get on the floor." It's what Brandon should have done in the first place, instead of going to the press. Go Blazers
Hey maybe, he just needed something to lite a fire under his ass.... Or maybe it's like we suspected and it will be one good game and three or four bad ones? I would just like to see Roy go all-out for the rest of the series and earn that damn paycheck.
Roy got off to a good start. He seemed to move better without the ball and set himself up to score. The second half he petered out. All in all it was one of his better games of the season.
It's become patently obvious that Roy should be playing WITH a PG and NOT as a PG, he can be effective but the odds og him being so are greatly reduced when he has to be a PG.
ROY SHOULD NOT GET OFF THE BENCH!!! :MARIS61: :MARIS61: :MARIS61: I am soooo glad that Nate is smarter than the majority of internet posters.
Roy played well as PG last night for a while. You're right, though. The line-up of Miller/Roy/Batum or Matthews/Wallace/LMA is easily the best offensive team Nate can put of the floor, and it defended well last night.
This is a legitimate concern. Has Brandon put together back-to-back good games since he's come back from the surgery? Now is the time if he is going to do so. More often than not, the team goes completely out of synch when Roy is in the game. Like Uncle Ty alluded to, it's been pretty frustrating watching Roy drive the ball, make a move, then panic and throw a flaming bag pass to a teammate. Last night looked to be more of the same, then it looked like he just said "fuck it" and forced up a long jump shot. Thank god it went in, and he seemed to push himself to move, jump and make some shots after that. We all hope Roy can find a way to contribute. In fact, I don't think we can win this series if he doesn't. He needs to decide what he still can do, work a little harder and do it.
