Yet we've bested 90 points only one time, and haven't hit 100 in three games. Just strange...

Unsurprising. Slow pace enables time to make shots. It also requires a good percentage because it gives you so few opportunities. I'd rather have more opportunities and the luxury to make a lower percentage.

Well, that works both ways. It's why efficiency is more important than PPG.

Scoring more than the other team is the key to victory. Having to shoot suck a high % leaves less room for error. Slow pace teams have to be all but perfect to win, and more times than not, they aren't

This is why running teams with tons of possessions do so well in the playoffs.

The elite teams have both a running game and a halfcourt game, instead of just one like us. Although we've improved at fast break this year because of the assistants and Miller and less Roy.

We run pretty well at home; we freeze up on the road, but very few teams can run on the road successfully.

If the game is played at low pace, the opponents get fewer possessions also. Which implies that they have to be perfect to win also. The reality is that low possession games favor teams that are efficient offensively in the half-court, which Portland is.

Which, I suppose is why we were 24th during the regular season in FG%...right?

I think they're okay in the half court....bottom half of the league in FG%, TS%, and the like. Good at not turning it over and offensive rebounding.

No, but it's why teams that are last don't normally do well. Somewhere in the middle is where most great teams are. There are exceptions for sure on both sides, but it's not the norm

The team has played one meaningful playoff series, against Houston. And they actually played pretty well against Houston, a top team that had the HCA. Last year, they were essentially without Roy (who was an important part of that year's team) and had an injured Batum. I know you like to pretend this group has a long and storied pattern of failure in the playoffs, but it really isn't true.

The other issue, of course, is defense. Portland's team defense hasn't been great and that's obviously important.

Great teams succeed because they do most things well. A team's pace doesn't lead to success, playing well leads to success.
