The Philadelphia Flyers were without defenseman Chris Pronger and center Jeff Carter as they lost Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series to the Buffalo Sabres and sources told CSNPhilly.com on Friday that both players will miss at least the rest of the first round.

Pronger has missed all five games of the series against Buffalo because of a broken hand, which required surgery in mid-March and has sidelined him since. According to CSNPhilly.com, he is experiencing pain in his hand.

A source also told the website that Carter has a severely sprained MCL in his right knee after colliding knee-on-knee with Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers in Game 4. The website said Carter is wearing on a brace on the knee.

Carter led the team in goal-scoring in the regular season with 36. His continued absence would put even more pressure on a Flyers lineup that has been shut out in both losses in the series. The Flyers' power play has struggled as well, going 2-for-21.
