In playoff games the stats for both players are very similar... Noah 16 Games 587 minutes 191 points 202 rebounds 35 asssists 18 steals 29 turnover 72-145 FGs 47-59 FTs 31 blocks 68 fouls Oakley 16 Games 590 minutes 191 points 204 rebounds 41 assists 16 steals 31 turnover 70-162 FGs 49-61 FTs 7 blocks 59 fouls
I this comparison is a good example of how stats can be misleading. I don't think the two are similar at all. They were both better on defense than offense, but that's not very remarkable.
Joakim Noakley I agree with rosenthall. The two play different positions for starters. Oakley wasn't afraid to shoot from 10 feet and out.
That's in there right? 31 blocks for Noah verses 7 for Oakley. Noah is able to guard the hoop at a level that Oakley was not, which is why we aren't going to trade Noah for Bill Cartwright. Edit: That and the fact that Bill Cartwright is now like 52.
I know that both players have a different playing style. But I found it is interesting how similar the stats are with each one playing 16 playoff games for the Bulls. I didn't want to say that they have similar playing styles.
Very similar stats until you get to shooting%...50% vs 43% isn't really all that close. Blocks aren't remotely close. Just as the Bulls once favored a defensive center (Cartwright) over Oakley, I'll take Noah over him.
