Does Anybody Hope Roy Plays Poorly Tonight?

A real fan never feel that way about a fellow Blazer. Do I hope that Durant never wins a championship because we picked Oden? Yup.

Anybody who thinks Roy will play like he did in the 4th quarter is probably setting themselves up for a letdown. That was performance of a lifetime. Do I HOPE he does it again? Hell yes!

 

I hope he has a horrible game and we lose. I thought he was washed up. I'd definitely rather see my team fail than be proven wrong. Go Mavs!

 

No, but I hope Nate yanks his ass ASAP if he is struggling. Roy showed in the regular season that he was up and down, and can't be relied on to show up every game....to no fault of his own.

I also still believe that Roy going ISO int he forth quarter is no way to win a title. It might get us past the Mavs, who can't seem to ever get out of the first round, though

 

In fact, in the best of all possible worse he gets ass cancer and it falls off the minute he comes off the bench. He'll be standing there with this weird, hopeless look on his face as his ass slides down his shorts, and I'll be at home crying tears of joy at my good fortune. Maybe the arena roof collapses, killing everyone on my team, just to ensure that there's no possible chance Roy can recover and be productive. It might set the team back four or five years, but man would it prove that I'm right, and that's all that matters.

 

Does it ever enter your mind that perhaps Roy's condition and mental confidence are improving now so that what he showed in the regular season is irrelevant?

Perhaps, but Roy not going ISO in the forth quarter of the last game would certainly have been a way to end the season.

And, BTW, given that he was drawing the defense and kicking to the open man throughout that stretch, how exactly is that style of play a bad thing?

Why would a fan ever hope someone on their team plays poorly? Especially during a playoff game. Makes no sense to me.

 

I ask because there are posters who haven't showed up on this board since absolutely trashing Roy after his Game 2 comments. Blaze01 immediately pops into my mind. Seems odd to me that a Blazer fan would show up to trash a player, yet not show up after wins.

 

WILL he play poorly, maybe. Do I WANT him to play poorly, of course not!

 

I agree. I think this is exactly what's going to happen. I also think LMA is going to have a monster game. That 0-6 or whatever he was to start the last game is going to bother him - and I suspect he will respond with a fantastic game, especially since it will be in front of his family.

 

Obviously, they're going to do whatever they can to keep Roy from getting off. Double-teams and zone defenses are likely tactics. As you said, though, that's going to open things up for Aldridge and other players. I think it's about time for Wallace to have a big game and he could benefit from the Mavs giving Roy more attention.

Man, I can't wait for this one.

 

oh jeez...lol, i want the blazers to win, dont care who plays well, truthfully, although roy continuing to play well will increase my expectations of him returning to his former glory, which was bountiful

The premise of this thread is stupid, as if many Blazer fans would wish ill of our own players in the playoffs. Maybe since the OP is gloating in his “I told you so” moment he thinks other people would wish anything to be in the same position, I have no idea.

I’ve enjoyed watching Roy from the start of his rookie year, right away he became the best player on this team since Rasheed and made our team much more pleasing to view. We were coming off seasons of having an offense revolving around Zach, Darius, and the year before Damon Stoudamire. Those dark years were not fun, even if the “tanking” got us some good draft picks I don’t ever want to repeat them again. At first I loved how Roy always seemed to make the correct decision and would pass it to any player the defense was cheating off of. Roy and Jarrett Jack were quicker at setting up an offense than Damon and wouldn’t waste time dribbling around with no motion or passing. Brandon had a ton of individual success and led our return to being a playoff team.

McMillian basically handed over the team to Brandon and gave him free reign to do whatever he wanted to do. Brandon even said it himself when we lost he felt like he should have been taking more shots and he has to do more for the team to have any chance to win. He was unnecessarily putting the entire burden of the team’s performance on his shoulders and Nate was going right along with it. Those times reminded me of the early Jordan years before Phil got to town, everything revolved around MJ, MJ could put up 63 in a playoff game and lose the series. Obviously Brandon isn’t the GOAT, but he was the greatest player on his team and thus had similar problems to Jordan. It wasn’t until Phil structured an offense sharing the scoring between multiple options that the Bulls became an even greater offense and a championship team.

I thought McMillian needed to instill an offense that featured other players on the team for long stretches of the game and only have Brandon be the entire focal point for some of the plays during the game. You can’t expect Roy to gameplan a great offense; that is the coaching staff’s job. The coaches failed Brandon in not giving him structure and direction when he was a top10 NBA player.

Nate has been forced to basically do the above because of Brandon’s chronic injuries. I hope it can bring us our first playoff series win in 11 years.
