You don't nor have ever had an offense that anyone can identify sooo.... no need to walk the ball up and set into something that no one including your players think will develop into a well run play. Rather move the ball up the court swiftly, attack the paint before the Mavs set, get their bigs into foul trouble and facilitate CRASH "crashing the glass". Let LA get to the line often early while getting Chandler into foul trouble, get Dirk sattled with 2 quick fouls in the first cause he plays NO defense and milk the home crowd and their energy to get ahead by 10 going into the half! Do not allow your players to settle for stupid jump shots as the clock expires with no one looking to rebound further allowing a great jump shooting team like the Mavs to make ya pay for it! Intstruct your bigs to hammer JJ Barea every freaking time he steps into the paint. Every time!!! Don't allow Dirk to meander around the paint till he finds some off balance prayer to throw at the rim. Last but not least realize that Kidd and Terry need to be bumped going through screens so they don't get a lawn chair and a beverage while waiting to take yet another uncontested three. Follow these rules and you'll be going back to Dallas!
You don't even want Dirk shooting off-balance prayers? That's a pretty tough standard of defense you have. "He must get 0 shot attempts. That is imperative!"
I feel if we bump him and keep him out on the three line we'll be effective. Dirk is soft and can be pushed into a area he's not "AS" succesful in as being 10 feet from the hoop....
You can't physically "bump" a guy out to the three-point line. That's called kidnapping and can be legally prosecuted. If a guy goes into the paint, it's impossible to prevent that or carry him back out. All you can do is contest shots inside. If "off-balance prayers" are bad news, Portland is in a lot of trouble.
Dirk is the King of off balance prayers but you can contest the entry pass he gets in his comfort zone and you can manhandle him I've seen Boston and LA both do it. A well placed hard foul on Dirk does alot to his confidence too. Unlike Kobe and Lebron he doesn't get pissed and better. I've seen Garnet and Howard both alter his game phsically. Wallace and Camby together could give him fits.
Hey Yardape..... Hello. Have you watched the series? Touch Dirk, and it's a foul. You want somebody to push him out to the 3-point line? That's solid gold, right there.
Anyhow, getting back to reality, Dirk is basically playing right at his seasonal level, at least in terms of PER, and he's doing that while getting 67% more FTA/game than in the regular season. It's Kidd, Terry, and Peja who are playing out of their minds right now, at least compared to the regular season. How to stop them is the real issue.
That's why you have to challenge the entry pass to him, don't make it easy for him to get it in his comfort zone. Think about the only time Portland was successful at guarding Shaq, Sabonis behind him and Pippen playing rover... You can do the same with Camby and Batum or LA and Batum. Further it's a home game for us, Dirk wont get as many wimp calls. Hey Papa G? You attack posts all the time, yet you have no answers or real suggestions, try having a solution for once, pleasant change!
According to you, comfort is not an issue for Dirk, since you don't even want him to shoot off-balance prayers. I agree with trying to force him out of his comfort zone--which means into off-balance prayers. You can't avoid that, nor should you try, since it'll mean allowing all their other players to shoot in their comfort zones.
Dirk has great control of his herky jerky style of play but allowing him to get into that rhythm in my eyes has been our mistake. Front the ball, body him tight ten feet out and farther, and don't allow him to roam aimlessly through the paint. Oh... and it would be nice to see an occasional arm up when he shoots.
Hey!!!!!!!! Yardape! Ha!!!! Why!!!! don't you ever! post after a win and!!!!! only post! after losses???!! Not sure!! if you know! but the team had! an historic comeback!!! that resulted in a pretty emotional win last! weekend!!!! How come you didn!t join us in ce!ebrating the!! win? They !ose a game and!!! here you are posting more of your sage coaching advice!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!Your! previous analysis of Nate riding the coat tails!!!!!!! of Crash Wallace was!! so insightful that I didn't think you could!!!! top it but!! you've outdone! yourse!lf with these new "rules"!!! Only problem is! I don't think Coach Nate!!! is reading the forum today!!!!!! so can you!!!! print these rules out! wait about the Home team tunnel!!! and hand it to! him when he comes out for the team shoot!!aroun!d tomorrow??? Don't allow Dirk to shoot off-balance, contested prayers but instead "manhandle" him all the way out to the 3pt line? Because you've seen LA and Boston do it? Not sure which basketball league you've been watching but here's a tidbit of news for you: the Blazers don't get the LA or Boston treatment by the refs and aren't allowed to even breathe on Dirk much less "manhandle" him. But keep these rules coming - they're absolute Yardape classics! Ha!
I hope Nate comes on this board to read this thread. There are a lot of people on here that know more than him, however, I'm not one of them.
Really? I read a lot of 'shoot quickly and crash the offensive boards', sprinkled in with some ' foul the Mavs' perimeter players before they get the ball'. I've started some dumb threads, but this one would be an embarrassment, considering the analysis that the OP gives with it. It must be satire. That's the only explanation.
You are making progress, grasshopper. You must learn to feel. Behold! Feel. Dumb threads------------->>>> embarrassment
Hey Nate... Don't get me down Take a sad team...and make it better Remember that once you let them start to win Then you begin...to make it better. Hey Nate... Don't be an assclown You were made to...allow fans to bicker The minute you let them under your skin Then your skin...must grow thicker. And any time you slow the pace, hey Nate, don't waste The fast, athletic talent upon your roster For well you know that it's a fool who loses his cool With a point guard who doesn't play "our way" Na na na, na na, na na na na
