Andy Katz just reported on ESPN that the Iverson deal is still very much alive and that Gerald Green and Al Jefferson have been thrown in the mix :thumbdn1: , but that they might be trying to do both the Iverson deal and the Telfair deal. But he said the problem is finding a 3rd party, but he mentioned Cleveland and Drew Gooden. Wally/Gerald/Big Al/#7 for Iverson and Telfair. Ehh... um.. Gerald/Al? Ehh, I mean I know that's what it takes to bring in a guy like Allen Iverson, but if this went down, would we regret it in 4-5 years??
lol celticballa i understand how you want to keep your core of young players especially green and jefferson but cmon if you could get iverson for them, that would be a steal for you guys the only equal trade(not money wise)would be paul pierce for allen iverson, but of course that is not going to happen..but if you guys are going to trade for iverson definetly got to package wally in there for cap
I think the celtics would regret this in 4-5 years from now, i think gerald is going to be a very good player and i dont think they should trade him even if it is for AI
I feel the exact same way. Telfair absolutely sucks for one thing. I don't want him anywhere near a Celtic uniform unless he's being posterized. I could see the Celtics giving up Green and Al in order to get AI because they could get a young guard or PF in the draft with the #7 pick. You never know how young guys will turn out so it could come back to bite them, but it seems like they're set on winning with Pierce now. AI would instantly make them the #2 team in the Atlantic and possibly even #1. Please don't trade the #7 pick for Telfair though. I can't stress enough how much I'm against that.

It's Al Jefferson AND Gerald Green, the 2 young guys with the most potential. If 3-4 years go by and Big Al is a valid post option and Gerald is a blooming stud.. with AI being 34-35 years old, we could regret it. Sure it would make us a valid playoff scare, but would be really be a championship team? I mean trust me, those 3-4 years watching Pierce/AI and a developing West/Gomes/Telfair/Perkins/Allen - I would love it! But after that, watching Green and Big Al in other uniforms tearing it up - that could come back to bite Ainge in the ass. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Living_Legend33 @ Jun 27 2006, 11:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I feel the exact same way. But if not, Ainge has said he likes Cedric Simmons. Trade for AI and replace Big Al with Simmons or a slider in the draft (Bargnani/Aldridge) then that would be something though.
That depends if Celtics want to win now or later. Also, it's Iverson, and the Sixers are not going to give him up for change. Green/Jefferson you could argue on the Sixers side, is not enough for Iverson. But if Celts do this deal, it's for now and not for the future. The question is, if Iverson goes to the Celts, is that enough to win it all? I'm thinking no, so if I'm Celts I would pass on the deal and continue building.
AI would be amazing to have here in Boston, him and Pierce together on the same court? That would be something to see. It does scare me a little that AL J/Gerald are thrown into this trade....but at the same time AL J was disappointing last year with lots of injuries and we haven't heard anything on Gerald's improvement. I don't know if Danny doesn't want to release that information or what, maybe I'm just missing all of it somewhere, but even Doc on EEI the other day and Danny on EEI a little before that, neither of them mentioned anything about Gerald. A lot of people say oh yeah giving up those guys would ruin our young core but it could also turn out the other way.
I didn't read the whole topic, but the way I see it, it really depends on what the Celtics want to do.If they want to stick with building for the future, they shouldn't trade Green. If they want to win now, they should give up Green for AI.The problem is, even if they acquire Iverson, they still need more pieces to contend for a championship now... although they would be in a better position than the Sixers are in terms of how long their "window of opportunity" would be open, since PP is MUCH, MUCH younger than Webber is, and even when AI would start slowing down he would be a great second option behind PP. That one-two offensive punch, even with one of them slowing down, would be ridiculous.

Pop: "OK Bruce (Bowen) you're guarding Pierce... no, Iverson... no Pierce.. no.. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!" haha that would be hell for opposing teams coaches.
i REEALLY want AI, but i don't think it's worth nearly the entire core. I would do something along the lines of Wally/Delonte/Green/pick for AI/Bobby Jones. Maybe.
