He had only 1 good season and doesn't seem to bring it on every down. I think he's going to be a situational player.
Bold move by Dimitroff to get Julio Jones. Him and Roddy White are gonna be monsters with Ryan behind Center.
I was shocked when the Lions took him. I thought we would have taken Quinn if he was there. Our rotation of Suh, Fairley, Cory Williams, & Sammie Lee Hill is going to be NASTY!!!!!
Sorry, but accuracy is a skill that comes natural. He's a major reach. If you can't complete a pass, you're never going to make it in the NFL, especially considering that he's going to be throwing under duress most of the time. It helps that he has Chris Johnson in the backfield with him though. I think the Lions have the right coaches in place to light a fire underneath him. Plus playing alongside Suh & KVB is going to keep his motor running. He'll probably only be playing 40-45 snaps a game, so running out of gas shouldn't be a problem.
I think that with Chris Johnson he's going to be under much less duress than most. Same with Christian Ponder. Which is a bit sad, since he's already among the best in the NFL at "throwing under duress"/on-the-run. That said, I think Jake's Accuracy % is one of the more overblown stats in this draft. IIRC, it's gone up almost 10% since he's been at UW (which would tend to repudiate your claim that accuracy is a natural skill). I would submit, though, that none of his WRs or TEs is an NFL prospect (Goodwin's the only one even close to being rated on the ESPN draft board, as the 124th best WR). For the first 3 years at UW he was constantly on the run and getting hit while standing in the pocket, so he didn't very much. And in Sark's pro-style system, he was told that if his guys weren't open, to just throw the ball away rather than try to force something. Watch the 1st NEB game and see how many times he just chucked it out of bounds b/c UW was sending out short freshmen WRs against Prince Amukamura. Gruden and Kiper both say he will from Day One be one of the most accurate out-of-the-pocket/on-the-run passers in the NFL, but that he needs work in the pocket. Totally agree, on both counts. For all the ballyhoo about his completion % in the 55% range, he was better on the run (about 70%) than any QB was overall. I find it difficult to think that a man who is superbly accurate at throwing on the run can't learn the intricacies of the 7-step drop and throwing while standing still. I'm not an NFL scout, though.
lol you guys could almost play a 2-5 defense with those two inside. Glad Denver doesnt have to run against that twice a year.
I actually like Ricky Stanzi myself. But no QB is the Suh-equivalent in this year's draft. Sounds awful but I actually want to trade McCoy (if he doesn't improve) for some good starters and tank the season for Andrew Luck.
I like the haul my Browns got, but it's slightly disappointing at the same time. I feel like they're a team with a lot of holes, so it looks to make sense to plug those holes with a lot of picks. But by moving down, it seems you're plugging those holes with not as good of players. It's always nice getting an extra first. But it'll be an awfully late one. The extra 2nd this year is nice. But I'm pissed we then turn around and tyrade away a 3rd rounder to move up 6 spots back in the first. Doesn't seem worth a 3rd rounder to me. I dunno. I guess the future will decide, but I just feel like landing an impact player at the top would be more valuable than moving down for additional later picks. I am bummed Peterson didn't slip to us, for sure.
I disagree. It depends on why you weren't as accurate as you should have been in college. Not gonna make excuses for him, but his offensive line was horrible and he rarely stayed in the pocket because of that. He can make the proper reads, he's got good athleticism, and he's an extremely hard worker. That's all you really need. Look at Jamarcus Russell who very well may been the perfect prospect. His arm made Stafford's and Cutler's look like high school arms. He had a very accurate arm from 50 yards in too, but he couldn't find hot routes, rarely trained, and was content being a millionaire. Yeah, i'll take the guy that'll work for it, not matter what his deficiency.
Yes, another Browns fan! Thats 4 on this board. And Heckert's plan al along was AJ Green or Patrick Peterson. He was enamored with both and if neither fell to the 6th pick, we were trading down. I couldn't be happier with the trade because we got another first (next year) and another second (this year) and fourth. Phil Taylor wasn't a flashy pick, but I think he could be a solid starter for many years with Athyba Rubin. Not gonna lie, I really, really wanted Patrick Peterson.
The homer in me is telling me he could be the next Drew Brees. Watch the games, with the absolutely shittiest receivers, he made perfect deep throws and moved the chains in a run-first offense. Now that we've switched to the WCO, you're gonna see his numbers explode. As to who I want for him, a monster DE or OLB. I've wanted a Clay Matthews-type guy for years.
I thought Cleveland's draft moves were pretty excellent. As a 49ers fan, I kinda wish they had done that kind of deal. I like Aldon Smith (though I was disappointed at first), but in this draft, with Peterson off the board, I think it's wiser to play to the talent depth of the first three rounds rather than put most of your eggs in the basket of a top-ten pick.
Yeah, there were only 4 blue chippers in this draft (Green, Peterson, Miller, Dareus) and if we didn't get one of them, the smart thing to do was fall back.
Glad to see my Skins trade down. I hope they use one of those 2nd rounders to trade down further. We need bodies, not high draft picks.
