Does anybody remember when the NBA did this? Basically, The NBA draft allowed territorial picks. Before the actual draft started A team could forfeit there first round pick and instead pick a player from the teams area. It only lasted like 6-7 seasons though. For example The Sixers could have selected Kobe Bryant because he played High school basketball in Philadelphia. If this was still in tact today The Bobcats would be stacked because they could select anybody from Duke haha.Notable players picked in the Territorial Draft:Wilt ChamberlianDave DeBusschereGail GoodrichBill BradleyTom Heinsohn

I know that the legend Oscar Robertson was drafted this way. He played for the University of Cincinnati so the ABA's Cincinnati Royals had first dibs on drafting him which they did. It's only during the twilight of his career when the ABA merged with the NBA and by that time he already was with Lew Alcindor (Kareem) in the Bucks.

LOL I dont remember this because I wasn't alive for this. Ive never even heard of it before. Sounds like a lot of big players were selected this way though. Id like to see who would be where these days if that rule was still aloud.

Good thing they got rid of this, kind of like the old NHL draft... Toronto got the best english player and Montreal got the best French player. Both those methods are cool but they have huge downfalls and like said, Charlotte would be STACKED

I wish there was a territorial draft last night. We would have had Randy Foye.

Wow, i really dont like that method at all...haha. That would make things to lopsided in my opinion. The nets would be screwed! i dont even think that they have a big basketball school in New Jersey. Do they? I might be wrong and just be forgetting a college
