"In need of an heir apparent to Carson Palmer, the Cincinnati Bengals engaged the Green Bay Packers in trade talks for the last pick of the draft's first round Thursday night in an effort to acquire a quarterback. According to league sources, the Bengals' presumed quarterback choice was TCU's Andy Dalton. Palmer has told the Bengals that he will no longer play for them and desires a trade. The Bengals and the Packers could not agree on the compensation for the 32nd pick, however, so the Packers selected Mississippi State tackle Derek Sherrod just prior to the expiration of the 10-minute clock allotted for first-round picks. In addition to Dalton, the Bengals have spent considerable time with Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett, who also remains available headed in the second round of the draft Friday (ESPN2, 6 p.m. ET)."
