"The Detroit Lions snatched up defensive tackle Nick Fairley of Auburn with the 13th overall pick of the NFL draft Thursday in New York City. Fairley, 6 foot 4 and 298 pounds, will join Ndamukong Suh -- the No. 2 pick in last year's draft -- Kyle Vanden Bosch and Corey Williams on the defensive line. A junior, Fairley won the 2011 Lombardi Award and was not expected to still be available at No. 13, but a run on quarterbacks coupled with questions about Fairley's work ethic contributed to his slide. A consensus All-American and SEC defensive player of the year, Fairley posted 60 tackles, 11 1/2 sacks last season before deciding to leave a year early. Originally projected as a top-five pick, he had only one productive year at Auburn (he spent two years at community college) and turned off some teams in the interview process.
