Daisuke Matsuzaka was taken out of Friday night's game in the top of the fifth inning because of right elbow tightness, the Red Sox announced.

Matsuzaka, who had been struggling with his rhythm throughout his start against the Seattle Mariners, surrendered a leadoff single to center to Ichiro Suzuki in the fifth.
