Coach Mike Babcock happy Red Wings in the playoffs on his birthday

    "Mike Babcock began his morning with a text from one of his daughters that put just a little more pressure on the Detroit Red Wings as their second-round series against the Sharks gets under way tonight.

    Today is Babcock's 48th birthday, and as he pointed out himself, "I tell people every year that if you're playing on my birthday, it's a good year," since it means it's the playoffs. But it is early in the playoffs, which is what the message drove home.

    "My youngest girl texted me this morning and said, 'impress me a little bit, be playing on my birthday'," Babcock said. "That's June 2. We'll see."

    First up is taking on the Sharks is Game 1 at HP Pavilion. Babcock is scratching Mike Modano and Kris Draper, and while lines probably will change during the game, here are the groups that are starting:

    Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

    Franzen-Filppula-Hudler

    Cleary-Abdelkader-Bertuzzi

    Miller-Helm-Eaves

    Of his lines, Babcock said, "we'll start with a plan, and that plan is usually good until the second or third shift, and then you're ready to adjust. Whoever is playing best gets on the ice, and if it's working good, you keep them together.""
