The Atlanta Silverbacks and FC Tampa Bay played to a hard-fought 1-1 draw Saturday night in St. Petersburg, Fla.

FC Tampa Bay controlled the majority of the possession in the first half, but Silverbacks defender Willie Hunt headed in a free kick from Mario Pérez in first half stoppage time, handing the Silverbacks the 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

The first half came at a cost for both teams, with Silverbacks midfielder Ciaran O'Brien and FC Tampa Bay goalkeeper Daryl Sattler both leaving the game early with injuries.

FC Tampa Bay continued to knock on the door in the second half and, after 74 minutes, finally tied the game. A deflection at the top of the 18-yard box fell to forward Mike Ambersley, giving him an easy opportunity in front of the goal. Ambersley converted the scoring chance to tie the game at 1-1, and the Silverbacks were unable to counter.

The Silverbacks fought off constant offensive pressure to earn their first point of the season in the tie; they now return home in search of their first win. The Silverbacks' next game will be at home against FC Edmonton at on May 7. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
