NEW YORK -- The Boston Celtics acquired second-year Portland Trail Blazers point guard Sebastian Telfair for the No. 7 pick in Wednesday's NBA draft, as well as one or two other players, multiple sources told ESPN.com.Sebastian Telfair Point GuardPortland Trail BlazersProfile 2006 SEASON STATISTICS GM PPG RPG APG FG% FT% 68 9.5 1.8 3.6 .394 .743 The trade was agreed upon Wednesday afternoon but it came after the 2 p.m. ET deadline which means the Celtics will still be on the clock, selecting for the Blazers, when the No. 7 pick comes up during the draft.Portland will pick at No. 4 and No. 7, barring any more trades. One of the players from the Celtics could be injured point Dan Dickau (Achilles), but that wasn't confirmed as of Wednesday.Boston has been searching for a true point guard and wasn't overwhelmed by the choices that it may have at No. 7. The Celtics worked out Connecticut's Marcus Williams, Kentucky's Rajon Rondo and Villanova's Randy Foye on Monday. All three could be available at No. 7. But the Celtics brass decided that Telfair, two years into the league, was better suited for the Celtics' system at this juncture in his career.Danny Ainge, the director of basketball operations, looked at Telfair's first eight games -- 12.6 points, shooting 45.7 percent, 42.3 percent on 3s as well as four assists a game -- as the indicator of his ability. Telfair hurt his thumb after that and was out for an extended period of time. He lost the starting point guard position during his absence to Steve Blake and Jarrett Jack. He finished averaging 9.5 points, 3.6 assists and shot 39.4 percent in 68 games. Telfair was the No. 13 pick for the Blazers in 2004 out of Lincoln High in New York.In his two years he averaged a combined 8.1 points, 3.5 assists and shot 39.4 percent. This deal allows the Celtics to play Delonte West more as an off guard with Telfair as a natural point. This trade won't deter the Celtics from still pursuing Philadelphia's Allen Iverson in a summer deal that is still very much alive with a third team still to be determined.
Great trade for Boston. Telfair is better than any player they can get with the 7th pick IMO.I also feel good for Telfair, He gets out of the disaster known as Portland.

I like this for the reason Tony said. And I think this is a huge step in Telfairs career. He can play with a team with good fans, good city, good star player, everything should be right for Telfair to get back on track!! I love Telfair, and I love the C's..So I really like this trade for Telfair and the Celtics.
I like this, I love Telfair. Welcome to Boston, Bassy!!!But - we should have at least waited to see who fell to 7. But did we at least get #30 or 31?
I'm glad Telfair's out of Portland but I don't see why Danny did this. We add another young point guard to our team, still no veteran leadership other than Pierce. I can't say I'm mad and I can't say I'm happy..
Telfair is and will be better than Delonte. Pretty smart thinking, in my opinion. With the seventh pick of the 2006 NBA draft, the Portland Trail Blazers select........ Randy Foye, out of Villanova.
I'm looking at this from Portlands point of view and they got a nice deal here, having the 4th and 7th picks now in this draft. They have two point guards that can play already in Blake and Jack, so it's not like this hurts their point guard position at all. My question now is, who do the Blazers take with the 4th and 7th picks in this draft?

I think Portland should take Morrison/Gay at 4 (whoever Charlotte doesnt take) and then draft the big man slipper at 7 (Aldridge/Bargnani)
None of those two big men will slip.Aldridge at four, and Rudy Gay/Morrison at seven. It's going to happen like that.
I like this for both teams. Telfair is and will turn out to be a better PG than West. They give up the 7th pick but Telfair is pretty much the same thing as the 7th or better. The Blazers get the 7th pick, now they have 2 high picks in this draft. They have Jack and Blake who are both pretty good so they dont lose much and they get Dickau to replace Telfair. I wonder if this affects the AI to Boston rumors
The Celtics must already know who is going to be picked in the top 6 so they did the trade. I think the Celtics would have been much better off picking Randy Foye, i've never cared for Sebastian Telfair at all. Come on Danny Ainge. :thumbdn1:

Well if there will be a trade for AI.WOW I wonder what the 3 team deal be, and exactly who the 3rd team will be. I am actually excited to see what the trade be like.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (StreeTBallTacTics @ Jun 28 2006, 10:02 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Boston just got Pwn3d big time.</div> I agree. I don't understand this at all. Two years ago Telfair was a reach at the 11th pick and now he's worth the 7th pick? Blazers now have #4 and #7 pick, wow.
I think Telfair sucks. The Celtics already traded away a PG that couldn't shoot in Marcus Banks and then get another one? The Blazers loved this guy when they drafted him. Trading him away after two years tells me they don't see him improving much. He'll add virtually nothing to a team that needs an impact player. Randy Foye, Brandon Roy, or Marcus Williams all would've been better pickups than Talfair.
