What was being said about him in here, in feedback and elsewhere was too much on him. I talked to him all evening to just let it go, he couldn't let it go. In defense of him, if this had been any other site, what he did in here is what any classic global mod would have done. He did not know the blazer community runs to a different beat, nor did it dawn on him that the older posts he was deleting were here for a reason. It should have registered that with the large number of posts, something was not right. In other words it was not neglect. Still, he was assigned over two forums. He knew that. He didnt come in here with an agenda. But he had one last night after he came back when people started in about him. I apologize to all of you. Any new mod I add from now on, (in fact it is posted) will be told to leave all of you alone. Again I pleaded with him to stop with the pms but he couldnt. I dont know who he banned. I apologize for that. I never turned that function on. Apparently they have always been able to do that. Denny turned it off. Good. I feel really bad over what happened. It didnt work out for him and he did harm to your forum. I cant blame any of you for ragging about him and on him last night. it takes two to fight. Sorry. I am just trying to raise activity in the weaker forums. I will in time achieve my goals. And again, Blazer forum is off limits to other staff in terms of moderation.
Why only removed? You should ban the hell out of him. Why were you pleading with him? I don't consider his actions even close to fair lol.
You don't have to apologize. People are responsible for their own actions. No one should blame you for trying to up activity on the other forums, especially since most of us just.. kinda.. stick to this part of the site. It makes me feel a bit dirty that we're going to be 'left alone, go to our own beat' etc, though. I don't want us to be treated like privileged children - especially not just because we have numbers. I didn't know deleting old posts/threads was a common thing for other communities. Thank you for taking care of him, though, after his little melt-down. Sorry this moderator didn't pan out. If only he could have sabotaged Spurstalk for you, though. IF ONLY!
TBF doesn't owe anyone a public apology but he made a bad decision. He should own up to it intrinsically. How do you act so blasé about someone else deleting THAT much material? It isn't M.P.'s total collapse that got people upset, but the fact that he was still part of the staff after the first unprecedented incident.
You guys aren't getting any special treatment. We consider the Blazers forum to be the model for all the forums we want to build on the site.
I still don't get why certain threads/posts were deleted, considering they were tame ones, including one a mod made (sly). If that is how "other" forums are run, then other forums are run idiotic. Guy acted like a knob, and the only way to describe him is that way. Saying we march to a 'different beat' almost is a tacit denial that he was a knob. Even if you "modded us the same" as everyone else, he deleted posts/threads that weren't worth deleting. I'm glad this is over with, but I'm not too keen on how it was handled. Saying he didn't come here with an agenda seems a bit untrue. Not saying his goal was to delete stuff, but considering he deleted almost 400 items (posts/threads, whatever), there was some kind of agenda of abusing ones allotted powers.
I tried to explain it yesterday in another thread. S2 looks weird to a lot of people because we don't sort/organize threads based on subject. Other sites have strict rules about how content can be posted. So if you post two posts in a row, some mod will come along and merge the two posts together. One line posts get deleted. OT posts about LeBron get moved to the Heat forum, etc. His mistake wasn't that he deleted 300+ threads/posts, it was that he thought it was ok to delete the 1st one. The others made sense to him because they were OT but not in the official S2 OT forum. He thought he was doing his job and doing it well, and on other sites he would have been. And yeah, it does sound a lot like how certain guys at BBF viewed things, as you know first hand. Another difference for S2 is that it really is run bottom up instead of top down. This seems like common sense to me and not hard to figure out, but I've seen a lot of mods who don't grasp the concept. Some guys coming here as staff from other sites are just used to hassling the posters over trivial matters. That's why the PM thing that was done yesterday seems so silly to all of us.
One of the odder episodes in S2 history. Basically, if I'm reading TBF and you correctly, it is common practice for mods at other forums to act like complete power-hungry douchebags, to delete posts that are not violating the TOS, and to harass posters for no reason via Personal Messaging? First of all, I've never been to a forum like that before, and if I found one, I'd leave it immediately. Second, you two do realize that's exactly why this entire community migrated here from S2, right? The guy is still PMing me for some reason, and I'm not interested in communicating with him at all.
I wasn't making up those rules I've seen on other sites. Heck, RealGM doesn't allow PMs, do they? And I remember a while back they shitcanned their entire OT section. We have several guys who post here because of harsh policies that allow mods to make it miserable for the posters...
yeah ive been to forums where you get warnings and infractions if your post isnt LONG enough, fucking size queens. when there are alot of rules that are dependent on the discretion of mods, it gets overbearing. sometimes you need to just reach up to the sky and scream ****** ****!!!
