Didn't Portland do the exact same thing with Ryan Gomes last summer? Traded for him during the draft, then waive him?
3 team deal: Portland trades: Camby, R. Fern, and Batum Denver trades: Nene, Felton and Anderson Washington trades: McGee and Lewis Portland gets: McGee, Anderson and Felton Washington gets: Nene and Fernandez Denver gets: Camby, Batum and Lewis Portland player rotation: PG: Miller, Felton : SG: Matthews, Roy : SF: Wallace, Roy, Anderson : PF: Aldridge, Anderson, McGee, and Wallace : Center: McGee, Oden, LMA. This maybe a very homer. So don't shoot me.
Here is a link that explains it. I didn't know that Gomes had 3 more years on his deal. http://blog.oregonlive.com/blazers/2010/06/waiving_goodbye_to_ryan_gomes.html
since we're talking about Washington and maybe looking for a young PG, here is a couple ideas: We give them Camby, Miller , Elliot Williams, Batum and Armon Johnson. We get back Rashard Lewis, Ja Vale Mc Gee and the draft rights to Brandon Knight. Since this is a big money saving deal for them, they don't exercise Miller's contract and we sign him back. We don't make the trade if Knight is not available when they pick. For Portland they are basically giving up Batum for a great young center and for hopefully the PGOTF. It will cost them a lot of money. It makes them younger and more athletic and maybe lewis can still shoot threes (he has shot .390 for his career though he had a bad year last year). For Washington it saves them a ton of money and they get Batum; Mc Gee might be expendable with young Seraphim ready to take over, these guys are somewhat similar, athletic defenders with not much offense. If Portland doesn't think Knight could be another Russel Westbrook, they probably don't make the trade.
OK, here's another trade with Washington if Portland is interested in Brandon Knight: Camby and Miller for Lewis and Seraphim and rights to Knight (if available). Again try to get Miller back. Again this makes us younger and more athletic and maybe adds shooting with Lewis.
I don't know if you are referring to my ideas or not; but Washington saves at least 31 million dollars on the first trade and 38 million dollars on the 2nd trade, that is not chickenfeed. I still think we have one of the few owners who might be willing to do a trade like this. Lewis had a really bad year and I think they would be glad to get rid of him at almost any cost. We could certainly throw our pick in there too. If you think these trades are wishful thinking then you must value Knight really highly; would you be willing to do the first trade but take back Seraphim instead of McGee? I don't think I would.
Since we're just tossing ideas out there for fun, how about Gerald Wallace and Andre Miller for Chris Paul? You have to think that Paul is likely to stiff the Hornets after next season anyway, so getting Wallace and an expiring contract for him wouldn't be all bad. Toss in a 1st round pick and they might even think about doing it.
Not even for a second... Not that I think Wallace and Miller are much better than CP3; but more importantly CP3 has some of the same physical conditions as Roy. The last thing we need is to trade away arguably our two iron men for another player that is a shell of himself in a couple years.
CP3's knee is an issue and, obviously, the Blazers would need to review all of his medical records and examine him before making a deal. That said, his situation is not identical to Roy's. First, it only involves one knee. Second, only the meniscus on one side of the knee was removed, not both sides like Brandon's. As far as our "iron men" go, remember that Andre is up there in age and would be playing on an ending contract. Wallace is a stud, but he's had his bell rung more times than the hunchback of Notre Dame. Hopefully, he has a lot of seasons left in him, but another whack in the head could change that. Most NBA players have issues. It's a matter of weighing risk vs. potential reward. I think CP3 will regain his shooting touch and most of his quickness as he continues to recover from his surgery, but I'd sure want a bunch of medical opinions before pulling the trigger on a deal like this.
I will say this. If CP3 could be 95% of the CP3 we know and love; I would give up Wallace, Batum, and anyone else besides Aldridge to get him. It would be nice to have a healthy CP3, Aldridge and Oden. Scary actually.
It's not like we're giving any young studs that would be detrimental to our long term plans. Come on Mags, even if you think this is a terrible trade, why would NO even consider it?
Think LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire... It sucks to be left with nothing when a franchise player decides it's time to move on...which explains why the Jazz were willing to send Deron Williams to the Nets.
If Boston is swept I could see them blowing it up. KG looks OLD and Pierce and Allen are reaching 34/35 years old. Hey Boston, we'll give you Oden/Batum/picks for Rondo/filler? [/wishful thinking]
