Amazing since this was the same guy that ran into the stands to attack a fan.

I do hate Artest. Never liked him even when he was in Indiana. But honestly, that was an awesome thing to do. In lifetimes, players may never get an opportunity to win a ring. Instead of locking it in a safe deposit box; he uses it to round up money for the fans in his area. So as much as I hate the Laker and Artest; I commend him for his unselfish act.

When Artest is in his right mind, he's a pretty good guy. It's when the squirrel breaks the wheel loose from the cogs in his mind and he flips out that he's a problem. At that point he becomes first citizen of Loonyville.

very cool of Ron to give back especially in an area he has issues with that carries such a negative stigma. Inspiring even.

Props to Artest for getting his act together and winning the award. Although I am a little upset since Camby was a finalist for the award and didnt win. Damn Lakers! :)

Stern's Laker storyline continues. The bad boy is now the best citizen in the NBA, and all is forgotten by the masses.

Camby had three things against him.

    1) He's not a Laker
    2) He didn't physically assault an innocent fan in the stands.
    3) He's never beaten his wife.

I wonder if Artest's wife thought he was "classy" and a good "citizen" when he pleaded no contest to domestic violence charges in 2007?

Artest is selling his Loomis home after a series of problems there since he joined the Kings in January 2006.

Artest deserves his citizenship award. Mental health remains a big taboo in both our own society and around the world. For him as a professional athlete and public figure to openly speak about his own issues in addition to raising awareness and funds for such a cause is an admirable act.
