about 6'4 barefoot probably 4-6" more then his height is my feel. Less then that is an "okay" wingspan, more then that might be described as "outstanding" STOMP
Elliot Williams is the player I hope gets a lot of time next year. He isn't really a PG but a very athletic SG who had good court vision. I always compared him to Bayless but bigger and can pass when getting to the rim instead of trying to always finish. If he gets his three point shot down he could be a great combo guard off the bench, if not he will probably sit on the pine all game.
I'd say he's a legit 6'5" - Armon Johnson is 6'3.25" w/shoes and he's clearly a few inches shorter than Williams.
The scouting report sounds like Rudy physically, but mentally, Williams will take many years to get to Rudy's basketball IQ. Bad news. I spent a few minutes on the picture with a ruler. Williams is only 6'3" barefoot. This assumes babbitt and Johnson are exactly 6'7.5" and 6'2" The exact result was 6'3.04" and yes, I corrected for Babbitt's tilted head. He needs to have that fixed.
The one and only part that makes him sound like Rudy is strength, and Elliot has a much better frame and should be able to put on some muscle. Elliot's greatest attribute is his quick first step. Rudy has no first step. Elliot is probably one of the best leapers in the NBA and is most likely fast and quick in other areas.
Both "need work on their shooting," a euphemism for, "They've been working on it for years and what you see is what you get." Rudy is 2-3 inches taller and has a World more experience.
Williams is supposedly a very good (and lengthy) perimeter defender. That alone makes him very unlike Rudy.
I'm not exactly sure that's the case. Rudy is actually pretty adequate at getting to the rim, it's just finishing that he has a problem with. I can't count the number of times Rudy made a YAY OH COME ON play getting to the rim and bricking the layup.
This honestly perplexes me because Rudy almost never gets to the rim. He has no moves that let him get by his defender.. Am I taking crazy pills?
When given a chance, he does, he's just not very aggressive, probably because he hates finishing....since he can't.
Rudy's not strong and usually can't force the ball in when he and his opponent have their hands around the hoop. So he has learned in the NBA not to try. Williams (just as weak, 3 inches shorter, but better leaper) may learn the same inhibition at this level. As for perimeter defense, wasn't Rudy's reputation just as good before he joined the NBA? More current than the physical comparison is the mental one. Rudy makes no errors in passing, sees the court, and busily helps everyone. It will take years, if ever, for Williams to get the same basketball IQ. So if Williams replaces Rudy next season, it's a downgrade for at least a couple of years.
He does when he's guarded by Kobe Bryant...
Elliott Williams sounds like he might fit well in a backcourt with Brandon Roy. He can guard the quicker of the opponent's guards and advance the ball in a pinch.
When are we going to stop building the team around Brandon Roy? He will never be a full time starter again so its silly to talk about how players would fit well with him. If anything Elliott would hopefully be able to replace the crippled Roy as an acceptable backup guard.
I don't expect much from him this upcoming year. To me, he looks like a three year project with a high beta.
