There's a few decent backup 4 options in this draft that intrigue me.

Kenneth Farried or Markieff Morris are realistic options where we are picking and if they feel like trying to move up (in a draft widely regarded as shite) it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility to purchase a pick and try to move up and get somebody they really like -- though I have no idea who that would be.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

For a back-up 4 I like Markieff Morris. Kenneth Faried is a guy I like too, but with hopefully either Greg or LMA on the floor at all times, I would much rather have a spacer like Markieff who is still a solid rebounder and defender.

Package our 21st and one of last years draft pick and cash and move up to the 14-15 spot and I think we're in good position to grab him.

I'm also really falling in love with Norris Cole, PG out of Cleveland State. I know most a starting to get with the idea that Darius Morris is the guy we should look at, but Norris Cole is a much more well-rounded player. Darius might have the gaudy assists numbers. but he was the sole playmaker on that team much like Evan Turner was for Ohio State.

Norris Cole is still a very solid floor general in his own right, but can play in an off the ball role as well. Good shooter (were he is equally as good spotting up or pulling up of the bounce which is very important especially when it comes to pnr play) and can dribble and finish with both hands very comfortably whereas Darius is extremely right hand dominant.

Save yourself the heartache, don't "fall in love" with any of these guys, this could be a historically shitty draft with a ton of the decent underclassmen going back to school because of the labor uncertainty in the league.

Falling in love was probably a bit too strong, and hey I really liked Armon Johnson going into the draft and was very happy Portland drafted him and look how that turned out....lol. Still like his upside a bit but it was amazing how fast and drastic his performance dropped off after a couple of great weeks to start the season.

Cole just looks like he has a nice back-up pg skill set, much like Eric Maynor. Not great at any one thing, but is just a solid all around pg.

I was thinking more along the lines of Lester Hudson.

Cole is the better passer, ball handler and has a higher IQ. More of a team player also.

Plus, Hudson was a 24 year old senior.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Look, it doesn't matter if this draft class is "historically shitty" or not....the draft is basically our only way to stockpile talent. We aren't going to be under the cap enough to sign someone major for at least 5 years. We're not going to sway ring-shopping veterans to come here unless we start doing some major contention. We don't have the depth or young, quality assets anymore to make another G-Wallace trade, and we're not a major competitor in the MLE sweepstakes. The draft is it.

That said, even in the 2000 draft (worst of all time?) and 2006 draft there were quality players scattered across the board. Personally, I'd like to see us come out of the draft with 3 or 4 young players that the scouting/management team has liked. It's our only chance for talent. I'm not saying that the 52nd pick will be an all-star, but Brian Cardinal, Michael Redd, Eduardo Najera and Eddie House could help our team (all 2nd-round picks from the "shittest draft ever"). Marko Jaric, Deshawn Stevenson, Mo Pete, Des Mason, Jamaal Magloire, Q-Rich, Hedo and Etan Thomas would all give us some decent depth (non-lotto picks). For the lotto, Przy, Jamal Crawford, Mike Miller could help us.

Each year there are a couple of dozen quality players in the draft. Maybe you're not getting hall-of-fame talent, but if you just get decent talent for cheap you can stockpile assets and use them later. Maybe even get some buried treasure in the form of a Rondo or Ginobili.

Jan Vasely is an interesting prospect. Very explosive at 6'11" 240 lbs. Compared to AK47 but I'm not sure how you can compare the two, Jan has the size of a center.

Damn, you know its a weak draft when people are projecting Kawhi Leonard at 5.

Kanter will bust, calling it now.

The bad thing about being such a weak draft and a few top notch underclassmen staying in school makes it that much harder to move up to grab your guy.

I love Brandon Knight, but not at the cost of a Top 5 pick.

Kawhi Leonard has been my guy for sometime now. But Top 5? No thanks.

A player who seems to be falling is Jimmer. He may or may not be PGOTF, but the kid can shoot and not only do we need shooters but we need a backup PG.

Two others I like are Markeifth Morris and Kenneth Faried. It's time to build our bench and like Brian said, the draft is the best way to do so.

The Morris twins, Tobias Harris and even Jordan Williams who is a brute could be available where were picking. All of those guys could be solid role players.

For as bad as this years draft is going to be, next years will be stacked.

This draft is severely lacking in franchise top players, but I think has a number of solid role players in it, all the way to the second round. There's value to be had.

That video makes him look like a young KG. But his #s are seriously underwhelming. Averaging 9pts, 3rebs, and 0.8 blk in 27 mins in the Euroleague.

The putback slam (0:56) was very Greg Oden-esque.

Which is why I wouldn't mind seeing Cho trade his way toward some future picks in this draft.
