Brown, an ESPN NBA analyst, and the Warriors have registered mutual interest in discussing the job since Smart's dismissal on April 27 and are expected to meet formally soon, sources said. Yeah, I'm not sure what his offensive game plan for the warriors would be. It seems like the warriors need to concentrate on getting a good offensive minded coach because the warriors are not built defensively right now. David Lee is a stiff on defense and Ellis lacks effort. Dorrell Wright, although effective at times, fails to work as hard. Curry has proven to be an okay defender, but is often out-quicked. Biedrins can't play D when the team defense is non-existent and he resorts to fouling either because the defense slipped or he's too over-aggressive. Unless there's a block buster move, it's better to add more depth behind the starters and see what kind of head coach can transition us to a more balanced floor game. We got to know ourselves, and we're not a defensive team and never will be playing undersized in the backcourt.
I think the coach is a huge part of making an identity for a team, especially for basketball. My first hope is for a good competent coach. But I also hope that one gets hired soon so he can be involved in making the moves to add the final pieces to the roster he wants. A good system of basketball is better than just having good talent - hence the fall of the Jazz.
We tried the run and gun and found out it was limited. The results were one season to the playoffs in eighteen years. For that, some people want to bring Don Nelson back . That's utterly pathetic. So now the mantra is defense, but we don't really have good defensive players. If we are going to build on guys like Monta Ellis, David Lee, Steph Curry, etc, then my take is we need some structure. That's why I'm sold on Jerry Sloan (pick and roll) and coaches like Brian Shaw (triangle). If we get Brian Shaw, we'll need some assistant coaches who can preach that system, too! I am not as sure about defensive minded coaches like Jeff Van Gundy. That is too big a leap and dare I say it, too "Boring." I want crisp, precision plays and eventually we can work up to being a solid defensive team. I'm against Mike Brown as I am not sure what he runs. He wants defense and yet his players do not buy into the system. I may be open to Lawrence Frank, but can anyone tell me what he runs? I doubt Rick Adelman wants to come back. He'll get better offers and I think he does better with veteran teams.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski, ex-Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is still the leader to be offered the Warriors job, several sources told Yahoo! Sports. McHale meets Warriors, Rockets finalist By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports 2 hours, 15 minutes ago CHICAGO – Kevin McHale met with Golden State executives Larry Riley and Bob Myers to discuss the Warriors’ head coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. Sources called the meeting “informal” and it could turn into a more serious sit-down later with team executives and ownership. Also, the Warriors are meeting Boston Celtics assistant coach Lawrence Frank in Chicago for an interview on Saturday, sources said. Ex-Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown is still the leader to be offered the job, several sources told Yahoo! Sports. McHale has a more serious second interview with Houston Rockets officials scheduled for later Thursday at the NBA draft combine. He’s one of three finalists for the Rockets’ coaching job, along with Frank and Dallas assistant Dwane Casey. The Rockets have been researching candidates exhaustively for weeks, calling everyone from ex-players, agents, front-office executives and coaches. The hiring of a coach could come down to the willingness of a candidate to accept a deal on Houston’s terms. It’s possible that an offer could come with only two guaranteed years, and $2 million per season. Another element of the Rockets’ job will be the prospective coach’s willingness to include the Rockets D-League affiliate’s coach as an assistant. Rockets management is enamored with Rio Grande’s Chris Finch, and some see him as a future head coach in the NBA. Finch had left a more lucrative coaching career in Great Britain to take a paycut in the D-League. In his first season, Rio Grande won the D-League championship.
