Re: 'Cash' in trades I hear this a lot and nobody has ever brought this up but when teams trade for cash what are the details, how much is it, where does it go, towards the cap? Anyone know? I've always wondered.
Re: 'Cash' in trades Im not sure i think its just spending money for the team, so i.e. they would still be over the cap, but they would have say 1 million that they wouldnt have to use their own money for.The money varies, depending on the trade
Re: 'Cash' in trades I think $1 million is pretty high....I wish someone here new the details on this.
Re: 'Cash' in trades They usually tell you later on. The day after the draft they said that the cash to Suns got was $4 mil. from the Blazers and it wouldn't go towards the cap. You just got to search for it. You can get the details the next day if you go to the right site.
Re: 'Cash' in trades It depends... sometimes the cash can be used to sign other players, and sometimes it can't. There are different situations...For example, if the team trades "cash" or "cash considerations," that means the team receiving the "cash" or "cash considerations" CAN use it to sign other players. "Cash" is guaranteed, whereas "cash considerations" usually means that Team A would pay Team B if certain conditions are met (similar to "conditional draft picks").Now, another example would be the following. Say Team A trades a player to Team B, but all Team B gives to Team A in return is a draft pick. In that case, the team that traded the player (and received the pick) would get a "trade exemption" equal in value to the amount of salary the player will make that season. "Trade exemptions" expire exactly one year after they are "created" (one year after the trade is official), and they CANNOT be used to sign other players, nor do they give the team any cap relief. The only way a trade exemption benefits a team is if they turn around and trade it to another team, or use it in a trade to make the salaries match under the CBA rules. There are other instances as well, but those are the two instances that come up most often.
Re: 'Cash' in trades Isn't cash in trades used to match up salary? I don't think you can use cash from trades to sign players.
Re: 'Cash' in trades I don't think cash used in trades is to match salaries. I'm pretty sure that when cash is traded, you can not use it towards paying any players salaries. I think you just use it towards things like luxury tax.
