Lance Berkman's one-out, bases-loaded single over the head of Philadelphia center fielder Michael Martinez in the ninth inning tonight gave the Cardinals a 2-1 win and a sweep of the two-game series at Busch Stadium.

Berkman, who reached base in four of five plate appearances, got his hit righthanded after Philadelphia had switched to lefthanded reliever J.C. Romero. The inning started with consecutive singles off righthander Danys Baez by Ryan Theriot and Jon Jay, who each got his second hit, and then a single by Albert Pujols, whose third hit was a bloop single to right.

Theriot, not sure if second baseman Pete Orr could run down the pop fly, had to hesitate and then was stopped at third.

Matt Holliday, nothing for his last 13, grounded sharply to shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who threw home for a forceout. But Berkman then hit a ball far enough that it would have been a sacrifice fly if Martinez hadn't been playing so shallow.
